Previews Roll In From Comic-Con

Within the last week or so, it was revealed that there would be a first look at Magic: The Gathering - Marvel's Spider-Man happening at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Many Magic players were thus surprised to see dozens of previews revealed for the set as early as Wednesday, showing tons of cards from the new set. Many have found this move contentious, be it due to the nature of Universes Beyond or the fact that they're showing up both as the MTG Arena streamer early access event for Edge of Eternities was going on and before that set's prerelease.

Still, there were no shortage of interesting new cards showing up, including some with classic Spider-Man comic art by legendary artists. Expect a full write-up on all the weekend's previews from Magic: The Gathering - Marvel's Spider-Man next Monday right here on CoolStuffInc!

Additionally, Wizards brought beloved cosplayer Dark Pact along for the ride, hosting a special Avatar: the Last Airbender themed cabbage stand. Dark Pact cosplayed as the beloved cabbage merchant, handing out tote bags and special promos of Katara, the Fearless. The fun little crossover saw lines wrapping around the block - even when the promos dried up - just to share the fun of the moment.

WotC Posts A Job Listing For Judge Program Manager?!

Wizards is hiring for the position of "Manager, Magic Judge Program"! #mtg

Several years ago, Wizards of the Coast once ran an official judge program. However, following a handful of lawsuits, Wizards decided to wash their hands of the program for good. This left the judge community adrift for some time, with groups like Judge Academy and Judge Foundry having minimal WotC backing - if any at all.

Earlier this week, though, a curious job listing showed up on Wizards' careers page...for a Judge Program Manager!

Bill Rose Retires From Wizards of the Coast

Answer to yesterday's #mtgtrivia question:

Bill Rose. Earlier this week, Bill retired. He had a 30-year career during which he had one of the biggest influences on Magic by any single person.

Many people know Mark Rosewater talks about Magic frequently on his Tumblr page, Blogatog, but he also posts frequently on BlueSky as well. There he poses trivia questions to his readers. Yesterday, he answered his question about who was behind the Sixth Edition rules update from Wednesday revealing the answer to be Bill Rose. Additionally, Mark revealed that Bill retired earlier this week from Wizards of the Coast.

You'd be forgiven if you might not be super familiar with this name. Over the last decade or so, he's been much more in the background as the vice president of Wizards as a whole and the head of Studio X. However, prior to taking a more administrative role, Bill was the head designer of Magic (a role Mark inherited when Bill was promoted). His history dates so far back in the game's history that he helped play-test Alpha. Mark notes that he feels Bill is one of the most influential people behind the game and I for one agree given his long and storied resume.

Enjoy your retirement Bill! It's well earned.

Decklist of the Week

It wouldn't be a new Standard season without the requisite yoman5 decklist dump, and he hasn't disappointed this time! With an all-new format thanks to rotation, bans, and the release of Edge of Eternities, they're more important than ever! This Bant Robots offers a fun and fresh take on a cool aggressive strategy that plays differently than most lists converting over from this past year. It's also quite cheap aside from the lands, which are always worth having anyways. Check it out or pick something else from among his many awesome brews and get ready for the new Standard format ahead in the next week!
