Edge of Eternities Now Out Everywhere

The latest Magic expansion, Edge of Eternities, is now fully released as of today! The game's first true in-universe take on the space opera genre has soared into everywhere you can purchase product. Two New Secret Lairs Release

The Chaos Vault is back at it again as two new Secret Lairs have dropped outside of the usual superdrop. These lairs - titled Featuring: Deathburger and Alien Auroras focus on the space-themed aesthetics of Edge of Eternities and utilize special guest artists to contribute cool new art to iconic cards. These include both nonfoil versions as well as galaxy foil versions. While Alien Auroras - which boasted reprints of powerful cards like Crucible of Worlds - is fully out of stock, you can still pick up copies of Featuring: Deathburger now. Duel Commander Banned and Restricted Announcement

This week saw a pretty sizable banned and restricted update for the Duel Commander format specifically. Four cards were banned from the 1v1 Commander variant to lower the busted power level of select archetypes. Those four cards include:

• Blood Moon
• Dark Ritual
• Force of Will
• Underworld Breach

Many of these cards have extremely powerful pedigrees and are banned in several formats as a result. You can read the full write-up and reasoning on the Duel Commander website here.

The Command Zone is without a doubt one of the most beloved content groups publishing content on YouTube. This week saw the group put out perhaps their most ambitious project yet: a full blown 25-minute short film taking The Command Zone to space. The short not only highlights Magic: The Gathering as one might expect, but it also parodies plenty of classic sci-fi properties along the way. It's gotten rave reception from throughout the greater community and is worth your time.

With the release of Edge of Eternities, players are rapidly racing to find the best things you can be doing in Standard. The set brought with it rotation, seeing five sets ranging between Dominaria United and March of the Machine: The Aftermath leaving the format. So, what's doing well right out of the gate? Why, it's Vivi Ornitier, of course!

The first two Standard Challenges on Magic Online post-rotation were both won by some flavor of Izzet utilizing the raw power offered by Vivi. The first one after the release of Edge of Eternities was a re-flavoring of the Izzet Cauldron deck that's been popping up in the weeks following the major Standard bans last month. The real surprise, though, was seeing good old fashioned Izzet Prowess making a showing once again! Even with the bannings of Monstrous Rage and Cori-Steel Cutter, as well as the rotation of Monastery Swiftspear and Shivan Reef, you can't keep a good deck down.

Izzet is looking like the place to be early on, but it's not even been a full week just yet. It'll be interesting to see where the format settles as players quickly figure out all the cool different things that can be done in this new format. It's going to be exciting to see what happens in that time, and I for one am excited to cover these lists in the coming weeks! Get out there, get brewing, and crush some Standard events!
