Disney Lorcana: Fabled - A Friendly Buyer's Guide

Reddit

New set, new toys. Fabled is Set 9 and it kicks off a fresh season for Lorcana. Here's what to buy, what to expect, and how to stretch your budget.

Key dates

  • Pre-release at local stores: Friday, August 29, 2025.
  • Retail release everywhere: Friday, September 5, 2025.

What's New in Fabled

  • Iconic rarity debuts. It is even rarer than Enchanted. Fabled has two Iconic cards only: Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Prince and Minnie Mouse - Sweetheart Princess. The official post says they use full alternate art, unique foil, and hot-stamped text. (disneylorcana.com)
  • Epic rarity also arrives. Epic sits between Legendary and Enchanted in rarity and uses special borderless "open air" frames and rainbow foil.
  • Reprints are a big focus. Fabled includes many reprints so Core Constructed stays playable after rotation. Community trackers report roughly 171 reprints and about 33 new cards.
  • New faces join the story. Powerline from A Goofy Movie shows up, along with Dumbo.

Product Lineup (and who each one is for)

1) Single-Player Decks

Best for: new players, gifts, quick "play tonight" starts.

  • Two decks this set, each a 60-card build with 2 foils, damage counters, playmat, rules, and a bonus booster pack.
  • Ink pairs: Amber & Sapphire and Emerald & Ruby. Retailers show art featuring Ariel and Mulan on Amber/Sapphire, and Powerline and Max Goof on Emerald/Ruby.
  • Tip: pick the deck that matches your style. Amber/Sapphire = songs, value, steady builds. Emerald/Ruby = pressure and tempo.

2) Booster packs and boxes

Best for: building collections, drafting with friends, taking a shot at Epic or Iconic.

  • Standard 12-card boosters. Boxes give the best pack-per-dollar if you plan to rip a lot.

3) Illumineer's Trove

Best for: players who want packs plus long-term storage in one buy.

  • Typical Trove contents include a storage box, 8 booster packs, ink dividers, damage-counter dice, and a lore counter. Great all-in gift.

4) Collection Starter Set

Best for: collectors and casual players who want a simple "open and organize" bundle.

  • Includes 4 Fabled boosters, a four-pocket portfolio (Mickey Brave Little Tailor art), a Tinker Bell - Giant Fairy promo with "glimmer foil," and a collector's guide. Multiple retailers list it at about $29.99.

5) Accessories

Best for: everyone.

  • Sleeves, deck boxes, and playmats themed to Fabled art land with the set. Easy add-ons if you are buying a gift or upgrading.

Rotation, Explained Fast

Fabled is the first set that rotates older cards out of Core Constructed. Sets 1 - 4 rotate when Fabled launches. Sets 5 - 8 remain legal. Reprints in Fabled keep fan-favorite cards legal with new set numbers. If a card was reprinted, older printings of the same card stay legal by rule.

What this means for you:

  • New players get an easier entry.
  • Returning players can grab reprinted staples without hunting older sets.
  • Your rotated cards still work in Infinity Constructed, the non-rotating format.

Who Should Buy What

Brand-new to Lorcana

  • Buy one Single-Player Deck. Open the bonus pack after a few games and slot any upgrades that fit your curve. If you want a nice home for cards, add the Collection Starter Set for the portfolio and promo.

Returning Player

  • Start with a Trove for packs and storage. Add one deck if you want a legal list ready for league night. If you already know the two or three cards you need, skip boxes and buy singles.

Parent buying for a kid

  • Pick a Single-Player Deck for immediate play. Add sleeves and the Collection Starter Set so their pulls have a safe binder right away.

Collector

  • Chase Epic for the new borderless look. Keep an eye out for the two Iconic cards if you love showcase pieces. Expect Iconic to be the toughest pulls in packs.

Budget-minded

  • If you mainly want to play, buy singles after your first deck. Boxes are fun but random. Fabled's reprints mean many staples should be easier to find.

Simple Shopping Lists

Starter bundle (new player):

  • 1 Single-Player Deck + sleeves + Collection Starter Set. Play first, then open and organize.

League bundle (returning):

  • 1 Trove + 1 Single-Player Deck. You get storage, counters, and a legal list on day one.

Collector bundle:

  • 1 Trove + a few loose boosters. Hunt Epics, cross your fingers for Iconic, and keep everything tidy.

Friendly tips for opening weekend

  • Confirm your store's pre-release hours. Most run Friday night and weekend events.
  • Sort cards as you open. Use the Trove box or the portfolio so nothing gets lost.
  • Keep your list Core-legal. Focus on cards from Sets 5-9 or on reprints included in Fabled.
  • Chase smart. If you only need a few upgrades, buy singles after your first packs.
