A Tour of My Art Collection

Reddit

Hello awesome MTG fans and other games. Today I thought it'd be fun to tour my art in the order that I acquired including all of my art for other games in addition to MTG stuff and other pieces of art from my travels!

Ready?

Let's kick this thing off! We will be doing this in the order I acquired said art.

Here's my first piece! When I was in High School in Charleston, West Virginia there was a Starving Artist sale at a local hotel I went too. There were loads of nature scenes and such. This was the only tropical theme. I gravitated to it since at the time I exclusively wore loud Hawaiian shirts and such. I paid $25 for it. I took it with me to college at West Viriginia Univ and then everywhere since and loved it way more than the standard college dorm fare of movie posters and such, and it decorated everything. Its frame broke moving and I had to replace it. I do not know who the artist is.

As folks who follow me know, my mother died when I was in 8th grade from complication due to her genetic neurological condition called Huntington's Disease which I inherited. Due to how hard it was to sleep together, my parents slept in separate bedrooms. My mother brought this metallic map into the marriage and then when I moved into my first apartment after my first job at Eastern Michigan University, I asked my father for this, and he dropped it off and I've had it ever since.

Now let's turn to my second piece of art. After Doug Chaffee died, his widow sold a bunch of his stuff. I found out about this from an article on this site here. I saw this Axman for the BattleTech CCG made by WOTC and then I loved it and picked it up!

Now let's turn to my first "sorta" MTG piece I acquired back in 2014. This is by Richard Kane-Ferguson. I was looking to acquire some older MTG stuff that I enjoyed at the time. This was art that was done for his card Hymn of Rebirth but self-censored and never submitted it. I got this framed and then the boards too to make it pop. RKG has such a unique style that's totally his own. Love it loads!

My first major location I visited internationally was Morocco outside of traditional stuff like the UK or Canada. I loved this Camelskin piece of art I picked up there from a street vendor in one of their Squares and this began a tradition of me picking up stuff from my international destinations for display on my walls.

Now let's turn to my second piece of MTG art, Temple Acolyte, which I purchased back in 2017 from Lubov the artist herself. This card was a common back in Portal 2, and dominated Peasant Magic as well as multiplayer. This is my favorite piece of art from a MTG set that I own. It's such a great use of colors and I adore the window here!

After Morocco for Spring Break that year I took my November vacation to Iceland where I vacationed for a week in Reykjavik. I was in a central hotel and two blocks away was a Christian Book Store. I stopped in and grabbed this handmade Cross. Love it loads and it was my art piece from Iceland. This became a theme you'll see later!

I had scheduled to head to Cape Verde for my next vacation after Iceland where I was slated to arrive in Spring Break of 2020 but COVID cancelled that, so I grabbed a quick trip to the Caribbean nation of Turks and Caicos Islands instead since there were no cases there yet. I grabbed this piece from a popular local artist named Nikki who had a lot for sale and display in various places I went to. I really love how the yellow plays into my yellow walls.

While in TCI I also picked up this piece of art as well since it played well with the colors with my first piece of art from High School. And then you can see this is by artist Alexis. I got them done with the same framing to match since I purchased them together on the same trip at different locations. Love this pair loads!

Now let's move from MTG to BattleTech. I was surprised by how cheap BattleTech stuff was compared to MTG stuff on the market due to the expansion of its popularity, and I like it more, so I looked at grabbing some B-Tech stuff in bulk from one store and we'll be looking at a few purchases from it. This is by Liz Danforth. This is interior art for a Mercenary Handbook of one group of Mercs. I recently did a reread of many of my BattleTech novels for my reviews channel over at YouTube (TheWorstThingAboutNewBooks - YouTube") including her significant other Michael Stackpole and he is beloved by fans for his novels.

My next BattleTech art! This is interior art from the Periphery Handbook of a Hatchetman BattleMech. See how the art heads outside of the piece? I had the framer include that in the framing and choose the mats and such too. This is by Jim Nelson.

This is our final of three BattleTech arts and this is my favorite. The Inner Sphere is divided into five major states and they are led by Houses, and this is the cover for the Chinese themed House Liao Sourcebook which is my favorite to play of the five. Since they are Chinese themed, I chose a Bamboo frame and it's a fancy gold too. This is painted by the Art Director Dana Knutson who did tons of epic BTech art. I adore this so much!!!

Now let's head back to Magic! This is Volkan Baga's common Pitiless Vizier which I love due to its color and style, and we know how popular he is, so I was happy to pick up one of his pieces! I love the frame here too!

Next up is a piece the Hildebrandt brother named Greg that was done of the white cycling matters two drop uncommon 2/2 Stoic Champion. It pumps. As you can see, this hangs over a hook for my Christmas Tree stocking which I just took down for this picture. I love the undead being reflected in the shield of this Soldier. This was the two-block that took place in Otaria in the arena like Kamahl, Pit Fighter (Onslaught and Odyssey).

Next let's turn to the alternate art for Swarmyard from Secret Lair by Carl Critchlow! This is a strong piece focused in on the popular tribe Squirrels that are helped by the land in question, although others are too like Rats and Spiders. As you can see, I chose a frame and mats that try to pick out the red colors in this. Love this little land's art way much because of the focus and colors on the fun Squirrels! This is my last MTG art I purchased!

In November in 2022 I went to Israel for a 10-day vacation and picked up this handmade Crucifix at a local woodshop run by Palestinian Christians. It's very nice and with zoomed in details.

Now let's head back to my trip. This is art I purchased when vacationing in Ecuador at a museum. It has their Condor that is their official animal. This is in my office with the House Liao art. As you can see, this awesome thing is gorgeous and beautifully done. I love the art and colors and such here.

Our final piece of art also was from Spring Break in Ecuador and I picked up this handmade Cross from a local artisan market. Again, I adore the colors here loads. Ecuadorian art is just so colorful! I went to three art museums in my week there and really enjoyed this loads.

And there we go! So...what did you think about my Art Tour? Anything in here that inspired you? Let me know!
