Yet Another List of the Top Casual Cards from Lorwyn Eclipsed

Reddit

Lorwyn Eclipsed is packed with exciting cards for Casual Magic, so today I've got my 4th Top List of cards for formats like Commander, Five Color, and Multiplayer and more. You can check out last week's brew here.

#17. Bristlebane Battler

Bristlebane Battler

Bristlebane Battler is a two-drop with evasion in the form of trample and protection with ward 2. It's got a 6/6 body that enters with five -1/-1 counters that are removed as other creatures you control enter the battlefield. If you've got plenty of creatures to back this up, it'll get big fast.

#16. Chomping Changeling

Chomping Changeling

Chomping Changeling is a take on Reclamation Sage, trading out a bigger body for every creature type since it has the Changeling ability. You can never have enough incidental Naturalize effects, and this is perfect in all kinds of Kindred builds, Blink decks, and more!

15. Explosive Prodigy

Explosive Prodigy

Explosive Prodigy is a two mana 1/1 take on Red's classic Flametongue Kavu that arrives and deals damage to an opposing creature equal to the number of colors among permanents we control. Unlike the Kavu, we can only target our opponents' creatures, but there are very few circumstances where that would matter. It's cheap, and works great in any three-or-more color deck.

#14. Shimmercreep

Shimmercreep

I really like Shimmercreep, a five-drop menacing 3/5 Elemental that enters and drains each opponent for an amount of life equal to our vivid count to drain! It's better in 20 life formats than it is in Commander, but if you can recur it through blink or reanimation it can do some work.

#13. Loch Mare

Loch Mare

Loch Mare is a two-drop 4/5 mythic that arrives with three -1/-1 counters on it. You can pull off one of those counters for 1u to draw a card. Alternatively, for 2u you can pull off two counters to tap a creature and put a stun counter on it. Neither ability requires the counters you remove from Loch Mare have to be -1/-1 counters, so if you can get any other kind of counter on it you can keep using those abilities.

#12. Gloom Ripper

Gloom Ripper

Gloom Ripper is a five-drop 4/4 Black Elf Assassin with a fun enters trigger that both pumps one of your creatures' power equal to the number of Elves you control (or in your graveyard) and then gives a creature your opponent controls -0/-X for the same amount. Given how beloved and strong Elves are, this could be a real contender in the right deck.

#11. Boldwyr Aggressor

Boldwyr Aggressor

Giants aren't as popular as Elves, but Boldwyr Aggressor is worth a look. This 2/5 five-drop has double strike and also grants double strike to all of your other Giants. With as big as Giants are, that's a lot of potential damage coming in swinging.

#10. Kithkeeper

Kithkeeper

Kithkeeper is seven-mana 3/3 Elemental with a sweet vivid enters ability that makes a gw 1/1 Kithkin for each color among permanents you control. This is amazing in some tokens decks, Five Color, Blink decks, Kithkin or Elemental Kindred and more. And it still has another ability. You can tap three creatures you control to give Kithkeeper +3/+0 and Flying until the end of the turn. Creating several tokens and then attacking for six in the air? Sign me up.

#9. Dream Seizer

Dream Seizer

Dream Seizer is a four-drop Faerie Rogue with a 3/2 flying body. When it enters, we can blight 1 to make all our foes discard a card. If you recall my love of Liliana's Specter, this is slightly more expensive but plays the same role.

#8. Disruptor of Currents

Disruptor of Currents

Disruptor of Currents is a five-drop 3/3 Blue Merfolk Wizard with Flash and Convoke. When it enters, you can return up to one other nonland permanent to its owner's hand. Having Flash is huge since you can play this at the end of an opponent's turn, or when someone is going into their combat step to take them by surprise. I also adore it in Type Four where you've got infinite mana but can only cast one spell per each player's turn.

#7. Lys Alana Dignitary

Lys Alana Dignitary

How does a two-mana 2/3 mana dork sound? Lys Alana Dignitary fits that particular bill as long as you can behold an Elf. Oh and it can only tap for two Green mana if you have an Elf in your graveyard. This Dignitary has some restrictions, but in an Elf deck you should have no trouble meeting them and a two-mana 2/3 that taps for gg seems well worth it.

#6. Gathering Stone

Gathering Stone

Gathering Stone is a four-drop artifact that arrives and asks us to name a creature type. Spells of the chosen type have their costs reduced by 1. Also, when it enters, and in your upkeep, you get to put the top card of your library into your hand if it matches the creature type. If it doesn't, you can leave it on top or put it into your graveyard. That's a lot of great abilities on one card.

#5. Thirst for Identity

Thirst for Identity

Thirst for Identity is a three-cost instant that draws three cards and discards two unless you discard a creature. I love the Thirst cards (Thirst for Knowledge, Thirst for Discovery, Thirst for Meaning) for discarding to set up recursion or reanimation. Or sometimes you just need to see three new cards and get rid of ones you don't need at the moment.

#4. Twinflame Travelers

Twinflame Travelers

Twinflame Travelers is four-mana 3/3 with flying that doubles all of our Elementals triggered abilities. Elementals have a long history of strong Enters abilities (which are triggered abilities), so getting twice as much from each of them is a powerful effect.

#3. Bre of Clan Stoutarm

Bre of Clan Stoutarm

Bre of Clan Stoutarm is next up. This four-mana 4/4 Boros legend can tap for 1w to give one of your creatures flying and lifelink until the end of the turn. Then, at the begging of in your end step, if you gained life this turn you can exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. You get to cast that card for free if its mana value is less than or equal to the life you gained. Otherwise, you put it in your hand. Card advantage for gaining life in Boros? You love to see it.

#2. Sunderflock

Sunderflock

Sunderflock is a nine-drop flying 5/5 Elemental that can be cast for x mana less where X is highest mana value among Elementals you control. Then when it enters, if it was cast, you can bounce all non-Elementals back to their owners' hands. The cast clause means you can't blink this for extra value, but it's still very strong for Elemental fans.

#1. Kirol, Attentive First-Year

Kirol, Attentive First-Year

Kirol, Attentive First-Year is a three-cost Boros legendary Vampire Cleric with a 3/3 body. It has just one ability - tap two untapped creatures you control to copy one triggered ability you control. You can only do it once a turn, but I'm sure you can see why it's here. Copying any of your triggered abilities is a strong maneuver to pull, and you can still activate Kirol's ability on your opponents' turns.

Wrapping up

And that brings up to the end of another Lorwyn Eclipsed list. As far as I'm concerned, there are still plenty of interesting new cards to explore for Casual formats in this set. Thanks for reading, and give these cards a try in some of your Casual brews!
