A Third Final Fantasy Top Fifteen for Casual Play

Reddit

Hello happiest of folks! Let's take a looksee at my 3rd Top 15 for the deep Final Fantasy set. Normally these would be Top 10s, with some honorable mentions to round us out to a Top 40 and then I'd call it, but since Duskmourn I just cannot do it that easily. So, I've started including more cards per article and doing more articles too. This is for all kitchen table formats like multiplayer, Highlander, Five Color, Pauper and Peasant, Type Four and Commander. This doesn't have the ones from the Commander set yet, that's coming soon. Here's my first article and last week's. Ready for more?

Let's get this thing started!

Honorable Mention #1. (#18. Overall) - Choco, Seeker of Paradise

Choco, Seeker of Paradise

Whenever one or more of your birds swing, you look at that many cards and put one into your hand. Then you can drop any number of lands from among those cards tapped! So, it's a better Explore and then the rest head to the graveyard to fill it up. Choco also has a landfall trigger to pump it's power by +1 until the end of the turn. Hooray for the Bird good stuff!

Honorable Mention #2. (#17. Overall) - Genji Glove

Genji Glove

This classic five-cost game winning Equipment costs three to equip and then it's got double strike. Then an attack trigger when it swings for the first time to untap it and do a Relentless Assault impression! On an Equipment that has double strike too? Nasty from Commanders with Commander Damage to 20 life formats like Five Color on a game-winner colorless thing? I feel a little sad it cannot hit higher - but that's how deep this set is.

Honorable Mention #3. (#16. Overall) - The Two Good Spellslinger Commanders

Tellah, Great Sage
Black Waltz No. 3

This fun duo of spellslingers in Red is great. The Izzet colored 5-drop 3/3 has the ability to turn their casts into a 1/1 Hero token, and then draw two if 4 mana was spent and 8 will sac her and shoot each foe for it's cost! Then the Rakdos colored flying, deathtouch 2/2 four-drop is a Guttersnipe for another mana and largely replaces it since it's non-dorks not instants or sorceries and then flying and deathtouch too.

#15. Sandworm

Sandworm

Is this five-drop uncommon red hasty on-curve 5/4 better than classic Avalanche Riders? It destroys any land on arrival with a bigger size, one more cost and no echo. But your foe can ramp, so it feels better if you destroy their overpowered Maze of Ith or Academy Ruins for a basic instead. Nice! You can turn it on yourself if you need a green for the ramp color, for example.

#14. Exdeath, Void Warlock // Neo Exdeath, Dimension's End

Exdeath, Void Warlock // Neo Exdeath, Dimension's End

This Golgari 3-drop on-curve legendary 3/3 dork ETBs and gains you three life to keep you alive. Then in your end step you can flip him if you have enough permanents in your graveyard, and then he's a fast game-winning trampler with power equal to the permanents in your graveyard! In any 20 life format like Five-Color that's a nasty one-shot killer like Mortivore. In Commander if your Commander you can also punch face with Commander Damage - but it's less good there outside of the 99.

#13. Seymour Flux

Seymour Flux

This 5-drop on-curve 5/5 splashable Phyrexian Arena on legs will grow its size when you do in your upkeep with a fun little counter. This is also legendary to lead a Commander brew too.

#12. Nibelheim Aflame

Nibelheim Aflame

This four-mana Mono-Red sorcery Chandra's Ignitions the board from one of your dorks, but not to your foes like that Classic. But it costs one less and has flashback too, so this may be better in many places too. Not to mention it draws cards if you cast it from your graveyard. Love this mass sweeper!

#11. Fang, Fearless I'Cie and Vanille, Cheerful, I'Cie

Fang, Fearless l'Cie
Vanille, Cheerful l'Cie

This fun meld duo are next in Black and Green with Fang, a 2/3 that draws and loses life when something leaves your graveyard, and Vanille, a 3/2 that enters mills 2 and the returns any permanent to your hand! Note she doesn't need to return what was milled, so that's pretty good to go, Idaho! Also note that her meld ability in in Black, so she's that color as a Commander you can include both. It's a nasty game-winner when you have both!

#10. Summon: Leviathan

Summon: Leviathan

Our 2nd-highest scoring Summon is this 6-drop on-curve 6/6 ward 2 dork that bounces all non-deep-sea stuff when it hits and then draws when those tribes swings. Love this much, and you probably will too!

#9. Terra, Magical Adept // Esper Terra

Terra, Magical Adept // Esper Terra

This flip Saga Summon is next! This Gruul colored legendary lady at 3 mana for a 4/2 body is hitting! She ETBs and mills you 5 and then reloads an enchantment to your hand. Then she spends 6 and taps to flip into her Saga side, and then you get a 6/6 body that makes tokens three times from among your stuff and then wants to help out as well. Then you can make 2 mana of each color mana and then flip her back over. Love her much!

#8. Moogles' Valor

Moogles' Valor

This five-cost answer to mass removal, or just filling your board is next! You'll make a dork 1/2 size with lifelink for each dork you control, and then insert indestructible for your team. Its great in many brews that go wide, like Aggro or Token, and in planeswalker brews in order to block attacks on your friends that would otherwise kill them outta nowhere.

#7. Yuna, Hope of Spira

Yuna, Hope of Spira

This 5-drop Selesnya 3/5 is next. Her and your enchantment dorks have trample, lifelink, and ward 2 but just on our turn. Then in your endstep? Return one enchantment for free! Although with a finality counter - so a once of. Love her potential much!

#6. Quina, Qu Gourmet

Quina, Qu Gourmet

This 3-drop smaller 2/3 uncommon legendary has the ability to have tokens made by you for... anything... also make a free 1/1 Frog which you can then sac for 2 mana to grow this in size with a +1/+1 counter. Nasty good stuff!

#5. Matoya, Archon Elder

Matoya, Archon Elder

This 3-drop 1/4 is a great blocker and can draw when you scry or surveil a card. I love that he added surveil there, and then is cheaper than others that have that effect. But he also doesn't have partner and is in just a single color.

#4. Noctis, Prince of Lucis

Noctis, Prince of Lucis

A four-cost with 4 power and four words in the title too! Noctis has lifelink and then you can cast artifacts from your graveyard once with a finality counter at a loss of three life plus costs. Remember finality counters trigger if the creature dies, so just blink or bounce and then get it back for good. From Solemn Simulacrum to Ichor Wellspring, you can also use that for ETB stuff or just mana rocks and combo stuff in case of being milled or killed. Love Noctis, Prince of Lucis lots!

#3. Vaan, Street Thief

Vaan, Street Thief

This Grey Ogre Red rare is next. Vaan has a nice combat damage trigger for its creature type class and then two more - Scouts, Pirates, and Rogues - to exile a card from the library of who you attacked and you can cast it. If you can't? You make a Treasure. Then when you cast a spell you don't own? Toss counters on all of your three tribes. Nasty power there. Don't run him as a Commander, just in the 99.

#2. Summon: Bahamut

Summon: Bahamut

Ah yes. This flying mythic, colorless in any brew 9-drop 9/9 on-curve body is next! This is my favorite Summon! This starts off by Vindicateing a nonland twice. Then you can draw two and be up 4:1 in cards, and then it has a win-con to shoot all foes equal to the total mana value of other permanents you control. Are you kidding me?

#1. Delivery Moogle

Delivery Moogle

This 4-drop uncommon White lad is next! It has an ETB trigger to search your library or graveyard for a cheap 2-drop or less artifact, like Trinket Mage. And you can get your graveyard if it's there in Highlander or Commander, and you just have one copy. It's also splashable. This is a Five-Color to Commander essential.
