Hello and happiest of days to each of you! I hope this article finds you doing super-mega well!
The deep Final Fantasy: MTG set has its full spoilers out and last Friday I did my first Top 15 of this deep set for all casual play - for all multiplayer stuff, Five Color, Type Four, Peasant / Pauper, Highlander and then some format you might have heard of called Commander. The first article is here!
Honorable Mention #1. (#18. Overall) - Zell Dincht
This three-cost mono-Red Monk is first with an 0/3 body. You can play another land on your turn, and then his power is equal to your land count ouchie - fast kill on a legendary three-drop early or late. But...you have to bounce a land each of your end steps. What that means is that you are great leading or in a landfall brew - big with the Chocobo tokens in this set loaded with it, as well as many any other stuff - you get three amazing abilities here for landfall good stuff.
Honorable Mention #2. (#17. Overall) - The Emperor of Palamecia // The Lord Master of Hell
This this fun two-drop Izzet colored uncmmon legendary dork is next with an on-curve 2/2 body and then taps for one mana in his colors for noncreatures, then when you cast with enough cost, toss a counter here and then when there are three, flip and then you get the attacking with the 3/3 attack trigger to shoot each dork for all of them in your graveyard save lands don't count too. Nasty game winnner in a popular archetype (Spellslinger) to lead or be in your brew with an on-curve mana accelerant too in a tight two mana package! I'm sure you can see why it's here, right?
Honorable Mention #3. (#16. Overall) - Sin, Spira's Punishment
This three color Sultai great color combo seven-drop on-curve 7/7 with flying is our final honorable mention! When this swings or ETBs too you can exile a permanent at random from your happy graveyard and then make a tapped copy, and if it was a land, do it again. Sure, that's once per since it exiles and it's at random, but a free copy of something you lost or milled and weren't getting back is amazing. Get it and run it with mill stuff too.
#15. The Wandering Minstrel
This fun-two-drop Simic colored but five color identity with that activated ability is next! It's got a blockable size at 1/3, and then all lands ETB untapped...Karoos et all! Then at the beginning of your combat make a free 2/2 all colors Elemental if you control at least five Towns, and then your eight-mana all colors activated ability can pump your team by your Town size! I adore this fun little Bard that I am building around him next week, so you should see him coming soon!
#14. Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms
This fun six-drop Red rare on-curve 6/6 beater Equipment carer is next with an amazing, one of the best equipment caring abilities. When he swings or ETBs, dig six and then drop all Equipment for free and then equip a Samurai like him for free! And we all know how beloved Equipment is in casual. I built around him last week as my first Commander brew here - https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-06032025-the-ultimate-mono-red-equipment-edh-brew-starring-gilgamesh-master-at-arms. Check it out and get your Equipment brew on!
#13. Buster Sword
This amazing colorless mythic Equipment costing three and then equips for two to give a nice sized +3/+2 boost in size. Then it's got a brokenly awesome combat damage trigger to draw and then cast a card from your hand at or less than the damage this dealt. Are you kidding me? That's way better than Sword of Fire and Ice with a smaller power and Shock instead of the free card for the same cost and equip too. Nasty!!
#12. Summoner's Grimoire
This is our highest scoring job select Equipment in the set. It's a four-mana rare with three to equip and then makes your dork a Shaman. Then when it swings - drop a dork for free! Then if it's an enchantments dork too like the new Summon ones here or others - it's tapped an attacking. It's slightly better than Buster Sword it can drop when swinging not punching, it'll often be attacking and tapped, and then any cost can be dropped, not just under its damage, but that draw and is colorless and grew the size and cheaper and then other non-dork, so pretty close.
#11. Starting Town
This better City of Brass is next! You can tap it for colorless with no life hit and then tap it for mana of any color for that life hit. It also ETBs untapped on the first few turns of the game when needed - worth it! Grab it and add it to your 5C Format or Commander or other multiplayer stuff!
#10. Zodiark, Umbral God
This five-cost mono-Black all Black-mana rare legendary God with the obvious indestructible and 5/5 size is our 10th card! Great for Nykthos and leading a mono-Black brew. Then this has an ETB trigger to kill half of the non-Gods of everyone to sac so he's great removal of everyone's board. Whenever that sac happens you grow him with a +1/+1 counter - that's a fast winner in Commander damage.
#9. Hope Estheim
Next are two Azorius leaders! The first is this Bear costed and size rare. Then she has lifelink and then turns your life gain into mills of your foes! Note that's in your end step only it happens - but she lives at the corner of Mill Street and Life Gain Blvd! Great place to live as she combined two beloved archetypes. I have built around her, she should be out this week on Tuesday!
#8. Cid, Timeless Artificer
This set's Templar Knights or Relentless Rats are here on a four-drop uncommon on-curve 4/4 legendary body! Then your deck can have any number, it's got cycling for two and then your Heroes and Artifact Dorks are pumped by each Artificer you control and in your graveyard - cycle much? Yay for that synergy and flavor since he's in tons of games.
#7. Torgal, a Fine Hound AND Goobbue Gardener
Next is this two-drop Green color mana dorks! The Bear size one first has a tap for any color of mana and then grows in size as you cast Humans. Then the common 1/3 has a great butt for blocking or toughness matters brews and then taps for Green. I love them both much, but on curve two-drop taps for any colors like the Wolf will often do well in Standard.
#6. Cloud, Midgar Mercenary
Next up is this two-drop mythic White Equipment carer a bit better than Gilgamesh as a Commander since he's cheap and Tutors for one on arrival and then as long as he is equipped the abilities of him or his equipment double. Great! But I prefer Gilgamesh's ability to his, but any doubler on a cheap Tutor like this cannot be ignored. White has great support for Equipment too.
#5. Ancient Adamantoise
This unique eight-drop Green mythic is next with an size of 8/20 and vigilance to swing and keep up that 20 defense and then ward 3. Its damage isn't ended EOT. Then all damage dealt to you and your stuff like planeswalkers and such gets redirected to it. Then when it does die, make 10 tapped Treasures and then it's exiled so that's a one of. Not bad! I adore this with indestructible Equipment or Auras though to keep you and your stuff safe from all damage.
#4. The Dominant Cycle
This is, sorta, our top scoring Summons. They flip into one and then back at the end, so they are better than the others - kind of like the Praetor cycle too, hence them hitting here highly, since they just will flip back whenl finished Saga Side.
Let's go in color order - Dion, Bahamut's Dominant is a four-drop 3/3 size White with an ETB to make a 2/2 Knight and on your turn Knights fly. Flip him for six into Bahamut, Warden of Light with a 5/5 size and then grow your stuff by counters each of two turns, then destroy an opposing thang and flip back. Jill, Shiva's Dominant costs three for a 2/2 that bounces a nonland! Then you can flip for five into Shiva, Warden of ice making two times dorks that cannot be blocked and then tap all of your opponent's lands.
The six-drop Clive, Ifrit's Dominant has a 5/5 size and an ETB you can discard and then draw equal to your devotion to Red. Then flip him over with 6 mana too, and then you get the many abilities of Ifrit, Warden of Inferno. Then the Boros colored 3/4 three-drop named Joshua, Phoenix's Dominant has an ETB to discard and draw up to two. Also a may. Then you can flip him for five mana into Phoenix, Warden of Fire and then Shock each foe twice and then return any number of dorks with a total mana of six to the battlefield from the graveyard - like what you discarded!
#3. A Realm Reborn
This six-drop mono-Green enchantment is amazingly awesome! It's a new multiplayer and casual staple since all of your permanents can tap for any color of mana! Forests? Treasures or Clues? All dorks are Birds of Paradise! It both smooths and breaks your mana in any number of cases in one hard-to-answer enchantment. I just love this from Five Color formmt to Commander and more!
#2. Gogo, Master of Mimicry
This three-drop blocker butt with 4 toughness and then taps with double X is next! You can copy any ability any number of times equal to the X spent here. Wow that's nasty good as a leader or in the 99. I love this in midrange to copy your Ravenous Chupacabra and Eternal Witness or loyalty abilities of planeswalkers in your Best Friends brews too. Love it!
#1. Y'shtola Rhul
Our final card, mythic and EOT Commander or other dork copier is here! You can drop her on the sixth turn as a Commander with an okay 3/5 body and then double your EOT stuff! Amazing with all of the good stuff, but probably better in the 99 than leading since you can use more colors and double the EOT of that good stuff Commander.
There we are! I hope that you enjoyed our looksee at my Top Cards from this set!
