While we know every card in Oath of the Gatewatch the cards have yet to be released, so the players at Grand Prix Oakland had to do without. Over 1900 players came to battle in one of the more diverse Standard formats in recent memory. While certain known decks like Abzan, Dark Jeskai, and Rally the Ancestors were out in force, new decks like Grixis Thopters were in the field as well.

Sunday drew to a close and the Top 8 featured such luminaries as Hall of Famer Ben Rubin, Grand Prix Detroit Champion Josh McLain, and Reid Duke and his litany of accolades. The semifinals saw Duke and his Rally the Ancestors deck defeat newcomer Woodrow Engle with Atarka Red.In the other semifinals featured Ben Rubin and his 64 card Abzan Blue deck dispatching Corey Lingelbach with Mardu Thopters.

So it was two Pantheon teammates squaring off for the trophy. After an epic three game match, it was Duke who prevailed over the Hall of Famer Rubin.
