Jensen Takes Oakland

Reddit

1631 players traveled to Oakland to get their Magic 2014 on. Day one was nine rounds of sealed deck, and after the dust settled 168 players made the cut to day two. The story of the weekend was Travis and Elliot Woo, the brothers at the top of the standings after the first day. They weren't the only two names though, as Hall of Fame Elect Ben Stark and William "Huey" Jensen also found themselves undefeated going into the draft portion.

On Sunday, the players showed up and broke into their draft pods. The Woo brothers were in the first draft pod, along with William Jensen, Ben Stark, Eric Froehlich, Ben Lundquist, and author Alan E. Marling. After two drafts and six rounds of play, the Top 8 was locked in, and it promised to be incredible.

Both Travis and Elliot Woo made the cut to Top 8, along with William Jensen, Ben Lundquist, and Grand Prix Las Vegas champion Neale Oliver, as well as Ben Stark and Josh Utter-Leyton falling just short. William Jensen's Black-Red midrange deck defeated both Elliot Woo and Joshua Goldman to earn his spot in the finals. William was met in the finals by Neale Oliver, who drafted a very controlling UB deck and dispatched Patrick Griffin and Ben Lundquist. This was an awesome battle to follow, the Hall of Famer William jensen battling Neale Oliver, who was trying to earn his second consecutive win at a Grand Prix. The players split two very close games, but it was William Jensen who took down the third and final game.

Congratulations to William Jensen, Champion of Grand Prix Oakland. Take a look at the decklists from the finals down below, and head over to the coverage on DailyMTG.com for more from Oakland.
