The latest Magic: the Gathering expansion, Marvel Super Heroes, is coming soon and with it comes yet another preview season.
As of this weekend, the entire main set and Jumpstart cards have been revealed. However, that doesn't mean everything has been revealed thus far. We still have four days of awesome Commander deck reveals.
The very first one was unveiled on Monday with The Command Zone previewing the entirety of the Avengers Assemble precon.

This precon centers around Earth's Mightiest Heroes and with their leader, Captain America, Team Leader, helming the deck. You can also take advantage of Director Nick Fury as a potential secondary option if that's more your speed.
This list is full of awesome new cards and will be available in both the typical precon release as well as a special Collector's edition. The Collector Commander deck will be basically the same deck, but every card will come in the fancy Surge Foil treatment.

The Heroes
Naturally, with a deck centered entirely around the Avengers, there's sure to be plenty of awesome new Hero cards.
Naturally, if you're a fan of the Avengers films, all of your favorite characters are here. There's all new cards for Iron Man, The Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye to give you a fun and fresh way to make use of all your favorite characters.
Professor Hulk is an especially interesting one. It's not often you see a Mono-Blue Creature with Trample on it. They do come up from time to time, but they're extremely rare, with only around 20 appearing throughout Magic's long history.
And don't worry, Thor does get a card in here as well. His card, Thor, Asgard's Avenger, is simply a card from the Jumpstart release. They both have the same set code, so you'd be forgiven if you didn't notice this, but that is technically where the card comes from. That makes it a bit simpler of a design, but a fun one all the same.
Many other favorites also appear here as well.
Falcon and Redwing is a fun way to not only create a massive Flying threat, but swarm your board with lots of small Bird tokens as well. Ant-Man, Elusive Avenger can do much the same for Treasure tokens, provided you can juice him up just a little (but not too much).
Both the Winter Soldier, Reborn Avenger and Scarlet Witch, Chaotic Avenger generate you plenty of advantage as well. The Winter Soldier is great for pulling fallen Heroes back from the brink and onto the battlefield once again. The Scarlet Witch allows you to instead go deeper into your deck to pull more powerful spells for you to take full advantage of.
A handful of lesser known heroes also make showings. If you're a fan of the comics, you might recognize the likes of Hercules, Firebird, and Jocasta, but film fans might not be. That's fine, though, because each of them are quite strong.
Both Hercules, Olympian Hero and Jocasta, Automaton Avenger are difficult to take down permanently as they grow bigger and bigger. Firebird, Blazing Ranger allows you to pump your entire team. That's especially potent if you can suit her up with one of the deck's various Equipment cards.
Oh, and Jarvis, Earth's Mightiest Butler shows up here as well. If you're like me and are more familiar with the Marvel films where the character is more of a computer AI that turns into Vision, it might be surprising to see him here as a human. However, the card is quite strong when your deck is full of Hero cards.
Vision does still show up here, though, this time as Vision, Synthezoid Avenger. You may have seen this one already, as Vision actor Paul Bettany got the chance to show it off at MagicCon Las Vegas in May.
New Spells
While the main focus is on the Heroes, we also get a handful of new spells related to them as is fitting.
Several of these spells play up the different things the Avengers are known for.
For example, Methods of the Mighty explores the teamwork of handling different foes and tasks at once, taking down a handful of cards while also boosting your entire board. Alternatively, sometimes everything goes to hell and you need to cast Avenge to wipe out the board and survive to fight another day.
Love on the Battlefield is an awesome way to depict Scarlet Witch and Vision working in tandem with one another. It incentivizes minimal attacking but the benefits are certainly worth it.
You can also do an especially heroic thing by making a Heroic Sacrifice, having one of your Hero cards take on a mighty attack. If and when it dies, you get plenty of additional rewards. Just as heroic, though, is the almost cliched Heroic Return. This allows you to bring back a Hero card from the graveyard and make it that much stronger in the process.
Finally, a couple of iconic Artifacts are in here as well.
The Avengers Quinjet acts as the Avengers' primary mode of transportation, so naturally it shows up here as well. It's quite powerful too, allowing you to cheat lots of powerful Hero cards into play by either putting them onto the battlefield out of your hand or returning them from your graveyard. It's another great way to bring your Heroes back after a big Heroic Sacrifice is cast.
Additionally, the Hulkbuster Armor provides a major threat, acting as a means to take down the Hulk himself. The card does a great job of depicting this, as it makes any Creature you equip it too gigantic. Imagine equipping your copy of Firebird, Blazing Ranger with this and really going to town!
Awesome Reprints
In addition to all the awesome new cards, several great reprints are included in the deck as well.
A handful of these cards are quite pricy. Kindred Discovery and Door of Destinies are both cards in that $10 range or higher typically, which makes them great inclusions for this deck. Not only are they fun cards to put into new players' hands, but they're excellent for experienced players to get more copies of. The same is true for Folk Hero, a card which was only printed in its original release via Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate and has awesome flavor for this deck.
There are lots of great Land cards included in the deck as well. Plaza of Heroes is a pretty pricey five-color option and once again receives a very fitting reprint. The deck also contains one of the Battlebond-style Lands in Spectator Seating, which is always welcome in decks like these.
The deck is also rounded out by several of the recent Dual Lands that have been printed for the first time over the last year. These include the likes of Scorched Geyser, Coastal Peak, Radiant Summit, and Glittering Massif. This just goes to show how awesome these Lands have been and Wizards' commitment to continuing to print them via these precons.
As usual, this deck contains new artwork for each of the three classic Commander precon staples: Arcane Signet, Sol Ring, and Command Tower. This time, however, it's not the same artwork across every deck. Instead, fans will get new art for each of these tailored to the specific precon that they pick up.
Conclusion
If you're a fan of Marvel and of The Avengers, the Avengers Assemble deck has it all for you. There's tons of great flavor callouts, great representations of beloved characters, and great reprints.
Best of all, though, is the fact that the deck looks like a blast to play. I'm not typically wowed by as many Commander decks, but one look through this list tells me that it's going to be extremely fun to jam games with. The gameplay is not only simple and easy to understand, but the flavor win potential is massive.
Getting to pull off a big Heroic Sacrifice or Heroic Return is the way you get an Avengers: Endgame finale moment but in Magic. I don't know about you, but that idea just excites me tremendously and has me wanting to pick up a copy of this deck myself.
If you want to get your hands on a copy of this or any other cards from Marvel Super Heroes, be sure to check out the set's page here on CoolStuffInc to lock in your preorders. There may be a few more days left of previews, but Prerelease is right around the corner, taking place next week on June 19th.
Just be sure to shout "Avengers Assemble!" whenever you cast Captain America, Team Leader from your Command Zone.
