TheStarkingtonPost.com reports that the DCI sent an email to all players invited to Pro Tour Amsterdam explaining that they will be testing a new Play/Draw rule for the tournament's Top 8.
"For the first game of each match in the Top 8, the player that finished higher in the Swiss rounds chooses either to play first or to play second. For subsequent games in each Top 8 match, the usual Play/Draw rule applies (loser of the previous game decides whether to play first in the next game.)"
The email also included more standard information for the upcoming event, including player party information.
This rules testing is interesting as it might encourage players who could otherwise draw into the Top 8 to choose to play in hopes of having "home court advantage" in every match. This can prove especially crucial in mirror matches where going first often correlates to who wins the match. The play / draw rule currently in place is something that has largely gone unchanged.
