The Most Interesting Cards from Final Fantasy

Reddit

Final Fantasy, Magic: The Gathering's newest set has been out for nearly a month. There have been standout cards in the set that have been showcased but let's look beyond that. We've had an opportunity to let the set sink in and it's time to look at the cards that are the most unique in Final Fantasy.

Ancient Adamantoise

This big-bottomed turtle is a really unique card. For5ggg this 8/20 creature is a mechanically distinct card. While Ancient Adamantoise has vigilance and ward2, the real kicker is in what the card does beyond that. All damage that is dealt to you and other permanents you control is dealt to the Ancient Adamantoise instead. When it is finally killed, you exile the creature and create 10 tapped treasure tokens. The only major drawback is that damage isn't removed from the creature in the end steps. This means that you'll still get a payday, but without some creative protection, it'll only protect you for so long.

Memories Returning

I am absolutely a sucker for chaotic cards. Memories Returning is absolutely my type of card. For 2uu you get to reveal the top five cards from the top of your library. Once you do, you put one in your hand and then choose an opponent, and they put one of those cards at the bottom of your library. This goes back and forth between you and them until you've put that last card in your hand. For that four mana, you get three cards and know the location of the other two. That can set up some neat options, including some win conditions.

Triple Triad

Speaking of unique and chaotic cards, Triple Triad is another really spicy one. This enchantment costs 3rrr and does some pretty cool stuff. At the beginning of your upkeep, each player exiles the top card of their library. Until the end of that turn, you may play that card you exiled and any other card with a lesser mana value without paying their costs. Snatching up your opponent's cards is always a fun option, and this is a neat way to make that happen.

Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness

I like to build new decks with my free time, one of the Commander cards that initially got my attention was Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness. While anyone who has played the Warriors of Darkness story in Final Fantasy XIV already knows, Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness is an insanely flavorful card. Only available in collector packs and in the Scions and Spellcraft precon deck, this1wb 2/2 Spirit Warrior is an awesome powerhouse. Whenever you cast a White spell, you put a +1/+1 counter on each legendary creature you control and they also gain vigilance. Whenever you cast a Black spell, you also put a +1/+1 counter on each legendary creature you control, and those gain menace. If you fill his deck up with tons of Orzhov (wb) spells and good legendary creatures, you'll have a devastating army faster than it takes for your opponents to scoop at instant speed.

Stolen Uniform

I feel like this Blue instant is absolutely overlooked. When you cast Stolen Uniform you can choose a creature you control and an equipment. You gain control of that equipment and attach it to that creature. While you have to return any equipment you took from an opponent at the end of the turn, Stolen Uniform also returns it unattached. This gives a lot of offensive and defensive capabilities. Take your opponent's Mithril Coat and put it on that creature's soon-to-be killer. You can snatch up a devastating weapon for a finishing blow, or just get that The Aetherspark off of the equipped creature. With the focus on equipment in the Final Fantasy set, Stolen Uniform is such a great Uno Reverse Card.

I could go on for days about the amazing and unique cards that the Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy set has to offer. I didn't even get to touch on how much fun the Town cards are and the nifty things that the Crystals can do. Maybe I'll swing by with another list of my favorites!

It's probably pretty important to note that the cards I listed here, at this time, aren't generally considered too expensive. If you are looking for some unique cards that have a ton of Final Fantasy flavor and want to add a little zing to your decks, I'd advise picking them up!
