Hi folks! Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column! This column will be aimed at showing you some cards on sale that could give you some new ideas for your lists. They will *usually* be Commander lists in Bracket 3 as well so you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods. If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices and/or add more along with some other competitive combos if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods! Keep in mind that the game changers in your deck aren't the only thing that moves you up and down a bracket. Your intent with your deck; inclusions of other interactions, engines, and combos, and overall playgroup should also be factors in your bracket! Remember that the weekly sale ends on Sunday night at 11:59 PM EST, so you have until then to get your cards ordered!
Today, we bring you a Mono-White aggro deck, courtesy of the Early Bird Sale! It's full of all sorts of soldiers and knights, and our deck capitalizes mostly on soldiers! We're gonna go wide with Myrel, Shield of Argive! Myrel is what happens when Grand Abolisher picks up a big shield and gains the ability to create humanoid 1/1 Soldier artifact creature tokens! Our hope is to play as many Soldiers-Matters cards in Mono-White, while also playing the best White control cards that we can! Let's get into it!
Time to go Wide!
Myrel creates tokens, but we want other cards that do so, along with cards that make those tokens bigger! Ideally, they're all soldiers too, or at least make soldiers, to let them snowball. Brimaz, King of Oreskos, former Standard all-star, has great stats for its cost while also creating tokens when both attacking and blocking. Cosmogrand Zenith, courtesy of Edge of Eternities, either gives you tokens or pumps your board when you cast your second spell, fitting quite well here. Darien, King of Kjeldor promotes you attacking with your board and leaving yourself open, so that you can get even more tokens and attack harder on the crackback! Hero of Bladehold may not be a soldier, but it pumps your board and creates soldiers at the same time, fitting perfectly here. Common theme here if you haven't caught on yet, Captain of the Watch also creates soldiers and pumps your board, Keeper of the Accord makes soldiers and helps you catch up on lands, and Rescue Retriever, this deck's goodest boy, pumps your board and protects your soldiers!
On the noncreature side, Martial Coup and Finale of Glory give you a great mana sink for soldiers, Caretaker's Talent is the Class-type enchantment that every White token deck wants, and Horn of Valhalla is a useful adventure that also ends up turning one of your creatures into The Abyss.
Mono-White Control!
Soldiers have the added bonus of often coming with stax-esque effects, especially ones that only affect our opponents. Myrel, being a Grand Abolisher herself, starts that off well. Aegis of the Gods protects us from targeted effects. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, and Thalia, Heretic Cathar both have effects that are rough for our opponents, and only one being bad for ourselves. Loxodon Gatekeeper does the same as Thalia, Heretic Cathar and also affects artifacts and all lands, so your pesky Treasure-obsessed opponents have to wait their turn, properly. Boromir, Warden of the Tower is a Vexing Bauble that won't hurt you, so you'll be able to cast your Flawless Maneuver for free as needed, and Esper Sentinel is White's only competition for Rhystic Study/Mystic Remora!
There are also a few non-stax utility soldiers here. Knight of the White Orchid is a convenient ramp spell for all White decks. Ballyrush Banneret makes most of our deck cost less. Bounty Agent and Cathar Commando give us some destroy-utility, both searchable by the always-flexible Recruiter of the Guard! In the same search vein, Ranger-Captain of Eos can find our Esper Sentinel while also helping shut down some noncreature spells if our opponent's start comboing off. Cloud, Midgar Mercenary can search for Horn of Gondor or even Skullclamp, to give those tokens we're making draw us cards as well. Finally, Preeminent Captain helps cheat in Soldiers, which gives us lots of value since they're also already attacking as well.
We've even got some good utility lands. Abandoned Air Temple is a Gavony Township that we can actually play in our Mono-White deck. Adagia, Windswept Bastion will eventually let us make copies of some artifacts/enchantments. Emeria, the Sky Ruin lets us recur our creatures in the late game, Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire has one of the best abilities, Channel, attacked to a combat trick, and War Room/Minas Tirith gives us incremental card draw each turn!
Change the Game!
We're only playing two game changers in our list, but it's quite easy to add another, if you would like! Smothering Tithe fits our theme of White Control decks, giving us treasures when our opponents draw cards. Teferi's Protection is a great utility card in creature decks, so that we can avoid wrath effects if we don't have our Flawless Maneuver. For a third option, The One Ring is a great choice for any deck, giving you unbeatable card draw. Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, or Mana Vault also can fill a slot so that you can cast your bigger cards much earlier. If none of those appeal to you, slot in Panoptic MIrror and imprint Swords to Plowshares or Flare of Fortitude; your opponents won't know how to handle it!
If you want to up your power level to higher brackets, Mono-White actually has quite a few combos that are easy to slot in. Rest in Peace + Helm of Obedience gives you a chance to one shot any single player each turn. Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward lets you do cool blink shenanigans with Ephemerate and Restoration Angel/Felidar Guardian, and even creates Soldier Tokens to do it! On the control side of that, you could also play Approach of the Second Sun and Reprieve, giving you a slower, two-card combo that will flat out win you the game!
Here's the list below, see you next week!
