Whether you're heading to Lorwyn Eclipsed pre-release or eagerly awaiting Arena drafts, these are the lower rarity cards that should draw you into their colour.
White
Clachan Festival
Two 1/1s for three isn't great, but it isn't the worst ever. It's the second bit of text that makes me think this card will be good. This is excellent flood insurance, and with all the typal synergies in the set, making a Kithkin token is very relevant even late in the game. I think this card will be good in most decks and great in some, especially if the format isn't overly aggressive.
Spiral into Solitude
Why would I say something so controversial yet so brave as picking a removal spell for best common? Well, this one has a bit more going on than your usual Pacifism. It even has more going on that the modern "pay to exile it later on" versions. While Blight is part of the cost here, and it is usually a downside, there are plenty of cards across all colors that benefit from being topped up on -1/-1 counters. In other words, this is often a 4 mana Oblivion Ring with upside.
Blue
Glamer Gifter
Blue has a lot of good uncommons so I wouldn't be shocked if this wasn't the literal best one. Still, this effect is often very good, and when it comes with a creature attached, it's worth paying attention to. It's a Faerie, which matters, and it has flash, which might matter even more for some decks. This is a classic case of lots of small details adding up to something better than the sum of its parts.
Unexpected Assistance
I expect to play a lot of this card. Instant speed card draw is always nice, but tack convoke onto it and you might have a "mythic common" on your hands. Imagine being able to cast your card draw spell and still have counter-magic up against another Blue mage. Happy days.
Black
Graveshifter
Like Blue, it was hard to pick a best uncommon for Black. I really like Boggart Mischief, but Gravedigger was basically the best Black common in several Limited sets for years. Now it's got a relevant creature type - which is to say, all of them - and I think that that pushes it over the top. Gravedigger was always good, but now that it triggers your goblin synergies and your elf synergies, it's better than ever.
Scarblade's Malice
This card is just insane, right? It makes any creature trade with pretty much anything, gaining life in the process. It even leaves behind a very relevant body. Heck, with all the 1/1 tokens running around, this might actually upgrade your creature. The fact that the token is an Elf certainly matters, too. It is situational, of course (be careful about open mana), but in the right spot, this card seems ridiculous.
Red
Boulder Dash
This was a boring choice between two good removal spells. In the end, I went with the flexibility of Boulder Dash. Sear is obviously great, but Dash being able to ping a token or a blighted creature is a nice bonus. It would be amazing at instant speed, but even at sorcery speed this card is going to do a lot of work.
Elder Auntie
Look, the real answer here is probably Cinder Strike, but it would be a boring article if I just kept picking removal spells over and over. In fairness, Auntie isn't far behind. The 2/2 that makes a 1/1 has always been solid, and both parts being goblins matters a lot in this set.
Green
Pummeler for Hire
There are several good elf pay-offs in Green, but I think the Pummeler might be more important overall. For starters, not every Green deck is going to be elf-based (although most of them probably will be). On the other hand, most Green decks are interested in stabilizing into the mid-game. What better way to do that than by gaining at least four life on a decent-sized body with vigilance, reach and ward? Good luck getting through all that.
Mistmeadow Council
All right, this isn't the most exciting card of all time, but it is good and that's the point of the article. Admittedly, there isn't a ton to say about this card except that even paying full price is decent so don't worry too much about your Kitkin count. If you do get to play it for four and do something else after it's just a bonus.
