Now that we have enough games played to see what Edge of Eternities> limited looks like, it's the perfect time to have a look what the best lower rarity cards ended up being.

All-Fates Stalker

Nailed it! Look, I'm not going to compare every prediction I made in my previous article on this topic, but since this is the only one I got exactly right, just let me have it, okay? Please? Thanks. This is the best non-rare White card by a decent margin (over 1% better than the next best, Starfield Shepherd), and it's for the reasons I mentioned in my previous piece: it's removal, but it's also flexible. There are a lot of cute ways to use the warp ability, and then the regular mode of Banisher Priest is as excellent as it usually is. Malleability is going to be a recurring theme in this article, so this is a good place to start.

Codecracker Hound

I guess we can consider the code truly cracked, because this hound figures out a lot of your problems for you. If you have time to warp it in - and you almost always do - you feel great about the game. If you need to hard cast it as a blocker, it's going to help you get out of that deficit by providing a blocker and digging you to more permanent answers. Simic is currently the best-performing colour pair in the format, and Codecracker Hound being this good is emblematic of why: you do have time to play a three-mana 2/1. Sometimes you have time to play it twice without even getting to block the first time.

Dubious Delicacy

Ironically for the best non-rare card in the format, this card gets the rare achievement of being an A- uncommon on 17lands. Black has a lot of good removal in this set, but the added flexibility of the delicacy pushes it ahead of its contemporaries. In control decks, three extra life can make a big difference. In aggro decks, well, the same thing but instead of gaining it your subtracting it from your opponent. The real sweet spot here, though, is just using it as a piece of cardboard to sacrifice to other things. There's nothing dubious about this card at all: it's great.

Terrapact Intimidator

This was pegged as one of the most interesting cards in the set before release. It also turned out to be one of the best, which is always a nice combo. This is what happens when you make a "punisher" card with two modes that are both good. No matter what your opponent chooses, you're getting value. If they give you a two-mana 4/3, they're going to have to deal with that somehow and maybe they're down a removal spell that could have killed a better creature. Where this gets really interesting if if they give you the landers. At face value, they're free-ish ramp, but in grixis colours, the landers can do a lot more. Another flexible card on a list that seems to be full of them.

Glacier Godmaw

Battlecruiser Magic is back, baby - literally, in some cases. No spaceships here, but the Craterhoof Wurm is here to end games. Obviously a card like this would have a good win-rate when resolved, but the fact that this is the best Green uncommon overall says a lot about the format. If you switch to "when drawn later" on 17lands, this overtakes the rest of the cards on this list and becomes the best non-rare in the set. Even when you pick its worst category, "in opening hand," it's still a B- card. To clarify, having your seven-drop in your opening hand - usually akin to a mulligan - is still worth 56.3% win rate. Turns out it is easy being Green, at least in this format.

Biomechan Engineer

I typically don't include gold cards in this kind of article, but I'm making an exception this time because the engineer tells us a lot about EOE limited. In some formats, this would basically be a 2/2 that makes a Lander. That's fine but certainly not "best gold card" territory. Here, though, you often get to use the activated ability, and although it's pricey, it can quickly take over a game. It's not that EOE is especially slow (most games end around turn eight), but that simic decks get to ramp quite effectively in the format. That means pay-offs like this are not only playable, but actively good.
