Hello everyone. The release of Lorwyn Eclipsed is here, so it's time to finish my look at decks that are focused on a single color. This time I'm looking at decks featuring the color White. Let's get started.
Mono-White Angels
We'll get started by taking a look at a Mono-White deck featuring one of White's most iconic creature types, Angels. Let's take a look at the deck.
Mono-White Angels | TLA Standard | ACCILLESS, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (27)
- 1 Haliya, Guided by Light
- 1 Lyra Dawnbringer
- 1 Starfield Shepherd
- 2 Aurelia's Vindicator
- 2 Inspiring Overseer
- 4 Exemplar of Light
- 4 Giada, Font of Hope
- 4 Lightstall Inquisitor
- 4 Resplendent Angel
- 4 Youthful Valkyrie
- Instants (2)
- 2 Enter the Avatar State
- Enchantments (7)
- 3 Seam Rip
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Lands (24)
- 12 Plains
- 4 Abandoned Air Temple
- 4 Adventurer's Inn
- 4 Cavern of Souls
Giada, Font of Hope is a terrific way to start things off with this deck. She has both flying and vigilance, making her great at attacking and blocking. She also provides +1/+1 counters to all of your other Angels entering play in addition to being able to tap for a White mana to cast an Angel spell.
Giada enables you to play Lyra Dawnbringer earlier than usual, giving all of your other Angels a +1/+1 bonus plus lifelink. While lifelink isn't an ability that stacks, you can benefit greatly from it if you have Resplendent Angel on the battlefield. If you're able to gain 5 or more life on your turn, you'll create a 4/4 Angel creature token with flying and vigilance during your end step. Chip away at your opponent's life total while growing your own.
Azorius Flyers
Next, I have an Azorius deck that can dominate the airspace. Let's take a look at the deck.
Azorius Flyers | TLA Standard | Alis3a, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (29)
- 1 Malcolm, Alluring Scoundrel
- 2 Appa, Steadfast Guardian
- 2 Aven Interrupter
- 2 Doorkeeper Thrull
- 2 Spider-Woman, Stunning Savior
- 2 Wan Shi Tong, Librarian
- 3 Aang, Swift Savior
- 3 Steamcore Scholar
- 4 Empyrean Eagle
- 4 Momo, Friendly Flier
- 4 Spyglass Siren
- Instants (3)
- 3 Get Lost
- Enchantments (6)
- 3 Air Nomad Legacy
- 3 Sheltered by Ghosts
Since every creature in this deck has flying, Empyrean Eagle will give a boost to each of them. Your creatures will also benefit by having Air Nomad Legacy. These +1/+1 bonuses that each of these cards provides make your creatures harder to kill and able to block more powerful creatures.
However, if your opponent has even bigger creatures than you have or ones with deathtouch, it's nice to know that this deck can rely on a couple of White cards in these situations. Both Get Lost and Sheltered by Ghosts help you remove a troublesome creature from play. Use these cards on the most dangerous of threats and let your boosted creatures take care of the smaller attacking creatures.
Orzhov Sacrifice & Tokens
The next deck I have for you sacrifices its own card for great benefits. Let's check it out.
Orzhov Sacrifice & Tokens | TLA Standard | PhantasmsPlayground, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (23)
- 1 Baron Bertram Graywater
- 2 Ruthless Lawbringer
- 4 Dalkovan Packbeasts
- 4 Greedy Freebooter
- 4 Susurian Voidborn
- 4 Umbral Collar Zealot
- 4 Vengeful Bloodwitch
- Instants (4)
- 2 Fanatical Offering
- 2 Shoot the Sheriff
- Sorceries (3)
- 1 Scout for Survivors
- 2 Strategic Betrayal
- Enchantments (4)
- 4 Tolls of War
- Artifacts (4)
- 4 Grim Bauble
- Lands (22)
- 8 Plains
- 10 Swamp
- 4 Misty Palms Oasis
In order to efficiently win the game, this deck relies on the abilities of a couple of its creatures to both deal damage to their opponent and to gain life. Both Susurian Voidborn and Vengeful Bloodwitch have similar static abilities that can be used in conjunction with sacrificing your own permanents to defeat your opponent.
To make sure you can trigger these abilities, you'll want to make sure there are some ways to sacrifice your own permanents. Umbral Collar Zealot and Baron Bertram Graywater offer repeatable ways to sacrifice your own creatures or artifacts, and each gives you another benefit. Sacrificing also triggers Tolls of War, creating a 1/1 Ally creature token that you can sacrifice later on for additional benefit.
Boros Angels
Next, we'll take a look at a deck similar to the Mono-White deck from earlier, but with a bit of Red mana splashed in.
Boros Angels | TLA Standard | HelloGoodGame, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (29)
- 2 Aurelia, the Warleader
- 3 Lyra Dawnbringer
- 4 Giada, Font of Hope
- 4 Inspiring Overseer
- 4 Lightstall Inquisitor
- 4 Momo, Friendly Flier
- 4 Resplendent Angel
- 4 Youthful Valkyrie
- Instants (8)
- 4 Boros Charm
- 4 Burst Lightning
- Enchantments (3)
- 3 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Lands (20)
- 6 Plains
- 2 Cavern of Souls
- 4 Multiversal Passage
- 4 Sacred Foundry
- 4 Sunbillow Verge
This deck is very similar to the Mono-White Angels deck, however the splash of Red gives you a little extra punch. It enables you to play Aurelia, the Warleader, who can grant you an additional combat phase when she attacks. She allows you to end games very quickly.
That Red mana also offers you the means of playing a couple of additional spells that can deal direct damage to your opponent. Boros Charm and Burst Lightning are both able to deal 4 points of direct damage to your opponent, hastening their demise. Alternatively, you can use Burst Lightning to destroy one of your opponent's creatures, potentially allowing you to attack for more damage.
Selesnya Rabbits
The final deck I have for you this week is a Selesnya deck themed around Rabbits. Let's take a look at the deck.
Selesnya Rabbits | TLA Standard | MTGA-Assistant-Meta, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (29)
- 1 Pollen-Shield Hare
- 2 Finneas, Ace Archer
- 3 Brightglass Gearhulk
- 3 Warren Warleader
- 4 Burrowguard Mentor
- 4 Pawpatch Recruit
- 4 Seasoned Warrenguard
- 4 Valley Mightcaller
- 4 Valley Questcaller
- Sorceries (4)
- 4 Hop to It
- Enchantments (4)
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Lands (23)
- 7 Forest
- 9 Plains
- 1 Lupinflower Village
- 2 Oakhollow Village
- 4 Hushwood Verge
While most of the creatures in this deck are Rabbits, I'll start things off by looking at one that's not, Valley Mightcaller. This Frog Warrior works great in a deck filled with Rabbits because it gains a +1/+1 counter whenever another Rabbit, Frog, Raccoon, or Squirrel enters play. Plus Valley Mightcaller has trample, so this allows it to get bigger than your opponent's blockers and still deal damage to your opponent.
Brightglass Gearhulk is the other non-Rabbit creature in this deck, but like Valley Mightcaller, it also has trample, making it a terrific attacker. But it is also a great blocker because of the fact that it has first strike. While it is untapped, your opponent won't be able to attack with any creature that has 4 toughness or less, for fear of it being destroyed.
Wrapping Up
Over the past five weeks, I've given you 25 different decks that you can use in the early days of Lorwyn Eclipsed Standard. Play them as they are while you gain new cards, and then modify them for this new Standard environment.
What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
