Last year I spent a lot of my time studying up on the ever popular Magic format: Cube. Cube is one of the most fun ways to play Magic and introduces the fun and interesting choices that a normal draft environment forces you to make. Cube has the upside of offering a fully customizable game play based off of what you would like your players to experience. Building your own Cube can be a daunting task, but extremely rewarding in the end. If you are interested in building your own Cube or just looking to do some updating to a preexisting one, here are the best cards we got for Blue in 2025.

Honorable Mention - Forecasting Fortune Teller

Starting the list off with an honorable mention, we have Forecasting Fortune Teller. This is a common draft chaff type of card from the Avatar set we received at the tail end of last year. This card is a two-mana version of Thraben Inspector, but has a larger stat line making it an amazing blocker. This creature is perfect for decks focused around artifacts or a flicker strategy. It also allows for some card advantage when you need it and it allows you to hold up two mana when you're playing Blue - SCARY!

5. Unstable Experiment

Unstable Experiment has been my go to spell. It is what I teach players to look for, as it makes a perfect card for Cube. This two-mana instant from Spider-Man does a lot of things for many different synergies. It draws cards, targets a creature, discards cards, deals a +1 Counter out, and is a noncreature spell. It isn't the flashiest spell in the world, but it's extremely flexible as a draw spell and a combat trick.

4. Hide on the Ceiling

A lot of people didn't like the Limited environment of Spider-Man, but I thought it actually had a few shining stars. Hide on the Ceiling is one of these stars in the darkness. This instant can be used to flicker your own artifacts and creatures or be used to clear your opponent's board for a turn. This is a perfect spell to help the Azorious flicker package that many Cubes will include. However, this spell can stand on its own as being a great combat trick or even a protection spell if you need it to be. Remember the best way to protect your creatures is to simply have them Hide on the Ceiling.

3. Diviner of Mist

Who doesn't love playing a massive flying dragon? Diviner of Mist is a straight up beast and evasive threat. This 5-drop creature can fill your graveyard and find you an instant or sorcery card and then cast it for free! That's some serious value! Reanimator is a very popular archetype for Cube to include and this is a slam dunk for that strategy. Not only can this fill your graveyard with powerful creatures, it can cast the Reanimate it finds as well in the same turn! This also makes for a great target to Reanimate. Even though this card came from a Commander precon, this card is a Cube card through and through.

2. Starfield Vocalist

Panharmonicon has been a staple of flicker for a long while. Starfield Vocalist is essentially the same card stapled to a Blue creature. This creature has the added benefit of having a Warp cost which was a brand new mechanic introduced in Edge of Eternities. Having a 2-mana Panharmonicon for a single turn is neat, but if you flicker the Starfield Vocalist before the endstep you will keep it for only two-mana. That's a couple of hoops to jump through, but a neat interaction nonetheless. This card is still powerful even at its full 4 mana cost.

1. Marang River Regent

Marang River Regent takes the top spot on the list. This card is just too dang strong. It is a cantrip, a massive flying threat, and removal all on the same card. It should be no surprise it's all the way at the top of this list. This card regularly makes problems in Standard and can now regularly make problems for Cube players as well. This card is also incredibly cheap right now and I recommend picking up a couple copies and keeping them close at hand.
