Best Commander Uncommons from Edge of Eternities

Reddit

Edge of Eternities has officially launched and it's time once again to dig through that draft chaff and find some hidden gems. Uncommon cards have been slowly creeping up in power level and these cards showcase it. Commander is always getting lots of new legends to toy around with each set, but it is also getting even more for the 99. I present a tier list of the best new uncommons to try out for Commander from Edge of Eternities. And you can check out my list of the best commons here!

Dauntless Scrapbot

Dauntless Scrapbot

Bojuka Bog is one of the most played utility lands in Black decks. Exiling a player's graveyard is an extremely useful tool to have in your belt. Reanimate strategies are ever growing in the Commander scene thanks to lots of big creatures being printed each set. Dauntless Scrapbot gives colorless a way to exile graveyards and generate a Lander token on an enters trigger. Lander tokens are essentially token versions of Wayfarer's Bauble, a very playable mana rock on its own. Land ramping in colorless is something we don't see too often and usually not paired with a playable effect like exiling graveyards. Dauntless Scrapbot will be great for artifact strategy decks and flicker strategies alike.

Lithobraking

Lithobraking

Anger of the Gods doesn't get played enough in Commander. These low to the ground sweeper effects are perfect for the early game. Knocking out key set up pieces such as Esper Sentinel or Priest of Titania helps you not fall behind your opponents, especially if you are playing a late game strategy. Lithobraking is a sweeper effect we just received that also creates a Lander token. This card also has the benefit of allowing us to only create the Lander token and not sweep the board if we choose. We also can sacrifice any artifact to this effect if we want to keep the Lander token for ourselves. Red does not often get options to land ramp and this card is a slam dunk. Gruul often plays into a Landfall strategy most of the time and Lander tokens seem like a perfect addition to those types of strategies.

Desculpting Blast

Desculpting Blast

Into the Roil used to be my go to bounce spell most of the time. Into the Flood Maw was a recent card out of Bloomburrow that replaced Into the Roil for me. Now we have a similar card that is a go to bounce spell for artifact centric decks. Desculpting Blast is a two-mana instant that returns a nonland to its owner's hand. You also get to create a 1/1 drone with flying if that permanent was attacking. Bounce spells are nothing new, however, bouncing one of our opponents creatures while creating one ourselves is series value. Artifacts entering or dealing combat damage have lots of benefits in Commander so this new spell might see lots of play moving forward, especially decks like Urza, Lord High Artificer.

Virulent Silencer

Virulent Silencer

Virulent Silencer is probably the scariest card on this list, because it deals with poison counters. This creature will give each of your opponents two poison counters whenever a nontoken artifact creature deals damage to them. Artifact decks make up a majority of the Commander scene. Unfortunately, most of them take long turns, spinning their wheels, and trying to assemble a combo win. Virulent Silencer allows players to shortcut this step by killing your opponents outright. Blue also has access to lots of proliferate effects which work super nicely with this uncommon!

Timeline Culler

Timeline Culler

Reassembling Skeleton, Bloodghast, and Gravecrawler are all choices for decks focused on sacrificing creatures for value. All of these creatures are easy to return from the graveyard so that you can sacrifice them again. Timeline Culler is brand new on the scene and might even be better than Reassembling Skeleton. For one Black mana and two life you can recast this card out of your graveyard for its warp cost. You then can sacrifice it to a Phyrexian Altar or an Ashnod's Altar to start making lots of mana off of it. Obviously, you are also losing life while doing this loop, however you are usually playing Blood Artist types of effects surrounding it. Timeline Culler is going to be a consideration for graveyard and sacrifice focused commanders from now on. I would pick up a few of this uncommon on the cheap while you can!

Faller's Faithful

Faller's Faithful

Ravenous Chupacabra destroys a creature when it enters the battlefield. This card has been a staple for many years since it fits perfectly into flicker based Commander builds. It also is a great utility piece to Reanimate from the graveyard too. Well, time to throw out all of those because there's a better creature hitting the scene. Faller's Faithful has the same line of text for one less mana! It does come with the downside of giving your opponent two cards, however one less mana is still worth it. This card can also be used to destroy one of your own creatures, potentially a meaningless token, and turn it into two cards. The flexibility this card provides is incredible, not to mention the fact that you can Unearth this card from your graveyard too! I can't wait to test this card out in some of my decks and I urge you to do the same!

Starfield Shepherd

Starfield Shepherd

White has a never ending amount of tutors on creatures it seems. Ranger-Captain of Eos, Ranger of Eos, and Recruiter of the Guard are some of the best tutors White has to offer when looking for creatures. A new card is being added to the lineup with Starfield Shepherd. Thanks to the warp cost on this creature, you can tutor out a creature with mana value one or less into your hand for only 2 mana. You can even cast this out of exile for 5 mana on a later turn as well! This creature can also fetch a basic plains out of your deck instead if you are needing land drops in the early game. This card also happens to be an Angel for those kindred decks! This card seems extremely good for Mono-White decks, especially on any kind of budget restriction.

Seedship Impact

Seedship Impact

Seedship Impact is a card that I completely overlooked at first. This card reads like it's a Naturalize, however, I missed the fact that it has the ability to create a Lander token. Twp-mana artifacts and enchantments are everywhere, from Arcane Signets to Mystic Remoras. Green loves putting lands into play and really doesn't need another way to do so. Lands entering play tend to cause lots of Green creatures joy, I'm looking at you Scute Swarm. This card is simply a removal spell that happens to provide some extra value in land ramp. If you are ever reaching for a Naturalize ever again, think of grabbing this instead.

Weftstalker Ardent

Weftstalker Ardent

Impact Tremors, Agate Instigator, Molten Gatekeeper, and Purphoros, God of the Forge, are all classic ways to ping your opponents for damage when creatures enter. Weftstalker is a new version of this effect with the new warp ability. Weftstalker Ardent also cares not only when creatures enter, but also artifacts. Weftstalker Ardent now can fill in the slot of a Reckless Fireweaver in an artifact deck that will trigger off of two types of cards entering. I personally am excited about testing this in my Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator deck that plays combo lines with cards like Reckless Fireweaver. Weftstalker Ardent will be playable in multiple archetypes making it a very desirable card for lots of players. I would keep a couple in your back pocket for when you finally put together that Red token deck.

Umbral Collar Zealot

Umbral Collar Zealot

Viscera Seer can step aside! Black has a brand new free sacrifice outlet! Umbral Collar Zealot is a free sacrifice outlet for 2 mana on a creature that allows you to surveil one for each artifact or creature you sacrifice to it. You heard me right; artifact OR creature. This card is such a powerful sacrifice outlet. It plays right into so many Rakdos decks that are focused on sacrificing a handful of artifacts and creatures. This card also surveils instead of scrys, this means it can help fill your graveyard as well. I think this card might be better than Viscera Seer mainly due to the fact that it helps reanimator strategies which are so prevalent in Black. The only downside this new card has is that it can't sacrifice itself which is a nice bonus that our classic vampire sacrifice outlet can do. What do you think of this new card?

That wraps up the best uncommons from Edge of Eternities. There are so many new and powerful cards being printed with each new set, even at these lower rarities. I am planning on picking up multiple copies of some of these and I hope you consider doing the same. I can't wait to see how these cards will impact Commander!

See you on the battlefield!
