Random Commander #23: Rigo-ing Away the Day!

Hello happy Commander folks I hope your day is going most bounteously well! Today we are going to knock out another random Commander, as generated by a random commander generator!

Here's what I got:

Rigo, Streetwise Mentor

This 3-drop hybrid colored three mana in Bant arrives with a Shield counter on him and then an attack trigger for your smaller powered stuff of 1 or fewer to draw. Note that's read to work once per attack no matter how many get their swing on. Love that much, but your card draw can be limited. How am I building around it? Tokens? Aggro? Counters like it's Shield? Flying Matters? How about a bit of them all save counters?

Let's start with boring ramp and lands and such. Since Rigo costs three mana of colors I am dropping dorks that cost one to drop him(?) on turn 2, you can also swing with them to trigger him once he's around. The best is the any color tapping one-drop with flying above. Then the one-drop Green cost common 1/1 Human that taps for White is here since you can tap it for the mana for your Commander turn 2.

Awaken the Woods will make X 1/1 sized Green color Forest Dryads lands to attack and ramp in one cool spell. I also tossed in Dryad Arbor too. Amonkhet Raceway has start your engines and then taps for colorless and with max speed you can tap it to give away haste. Nice way to give it away in this aggro brew with early stuff and nothing else.

The one-drop 1/2 Delighted Halfling will tap for colorless and then one of any color for your legendary stuff and then it cannot be countered either. I tossed in three two-cost ramp spells that'll ramp out a non-basic land as well.

Now let's turn to lands in my colors that make 1/1 tokens for attacking and blocking too. Castle Ardenvale will often ETB untapped and then taps with four to make a 1/1 Human and then Mirrex taps for colorless, ETBs untapped and taps with three for a 1/1 cannot block toxic 1 and then it's an artifact dork of a Phyrexian Mite nature. Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree taps for colorless and with Selesnya colored mana and four total to make a 1/1 Saproling this time!

Let's turn to this trio next. The first will tap for colorless and can be tapped with 2 to sac a token for card draw, or three to make a 1/1 Blue Fish and pay a life or four to make a Treasure. Then we needed attackers from man lands with a 1 power so enter these two colorless tapping rares that for one mana become a 1/1 flyer and then the latter has infect to kill with that.

The ascend colorless tapper will tap for five if you've ascended to draw that card, great in a go-wide brew like this with tokens or dork or just a bunch of lands too! The White tapping legendary will often enter tapped and then taps with two to draw that sweet card too If you've attacked with two at least two dorks, easily done here with our need to swing to trigger Rigo anyway. The colorless tapping land is last with the ability to tap with two Azorius mana to exile a dork card from your graveyard to make that 1/1 flying Spirit!

Fun Aggro and Token Making Stuff

Now let's turn to the fun aggro and token making stuff! This pair of one-drop Blue 1/1 flyers with sacrifice to interact with stuff is first! The Azorius colored one can be sacrificed for no mana to Force Spike an opposing spell. Nice! The mono-Blue one needs a Blue to sac and then counters a wider range of stuff that's targeting your or your critters! I've found that usually people won't target you if you control it.

Now let's turn to mass token makers! Ancient Gold Dragon has a combat trigger to make 1d20! Nasty! They have flying too! Then the two color Azorius instant Exotic Pets will make two 1/1 unblockable Fish with them getting a shield counter if you control your Rigo love that much. Increasing Devotion makes five 1/1 Humans and then if flashed back makes 10!

Let's finish with this flying one-drop 1/1 size trio! The common one ETBS and you'll scry for card selection! Then the artifact legendary one will sac to force who was dealt damage the inability to cast non-dorks! The uncommon Blue one with flash is last and you can activate four mana to draw that card like a Treasure Trove on legs! Love this on-curve and size trilogy much!

Synergies and Winning Conditions

Now let's turn to the awesome synergies and winning conditions! Since we are naturally drawing multiple cards on our turn with Rigo swinging and others I wanted to add this three set that turns the second card draw into a free 1/1 token, ideally with flying. The Vee with a three-cost flying and 4/4 size and crew two makes 1/1 flying Thopter. The 2/1 on curve Standard legal two-drop flyer makes 1/1 flyers that are Faeries. The legendary two-drop 2/2 dork in Azorius colors are on the ground but Human Soldiers.

Now let's turn to ways to make my team unblockable! Delney, Streetwise Lookout will give your smaller powered stuff unblockable by larger powered and then they'll double your triggers when they arrive or swings or other stuff. Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive will let your one-power stuff swing unblockable and toughness too. Then the Selesnya flanker four-drop Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa your small stuff cannot be blocked save by flying or reach.

Now let's turn to synergies. Meekstone will stop everyone from untapping their bigger stuff, love it much here and with any smaller stuff brew like this one. Vnwxt, Verbose Host gives you no max hand size and start your engines will double your card draw if you've got max speed again, easily done here.

Now let's finish with win cons for go wide brews like this! The eight-drop 6/6 flyer in White will pump your team equal to your dork count and then give them flying this turn to win. The mono-Green dork with haste to swing now and a smaller 5/5 size gives them trample not flying, but same pump. Love this red zone smash duo much, you do too!

Now let's turn to answers, ideally ones that add to our stuff. I tossed in the classic two-cost answer to targeted or mass removal by giving your stuff indestructible and hexproof. Then I tossed in two-cost counters like Negate and Counterspell and the above five-cost that makes 1/1 flyers of the Thopter persuasion for the cost of what was countered!

Let's turn to targeted removal. Stroke of Midnight will destroy anything that ain't a land and then give them a free 1/1 dork to make nice. Aura Mutation will destroy an enchantment and leave behind it's cost in dorks of a Saproling 1/1 size! The artifact dork Haywire Mite has a death trigger for two life and then a sac for a Green mana to exile a non-dork artifact or enchantment like Rhystic Study or The One Ring. Do it!

Let's finish with my four mass sweepers! The six-drop planeswalker with 4 loyalty is first! She can +1 to make three 1/1 Soldiers! Nasty good and then she can -2 to mass sweep bigger powered stuff. Then you can cast the aftermath sweeper for four to sweep medium or higher power stuff and then five-drop sorcery to bring back your cheap stuff. Then I finished by added in the mass dork maker and sweeper of the X spell that makes Mites that have toxic too, and then Martial Coup here too.

The one-drop Equipment for equipping one to grow by +1 and drop toughness by -1 and then draws you two is a classic card draw machine for tokens and aggro. Like this! The rare three-drop mono-White enchantment will draw when your dorks arrive at the battlefield but only cheap ones and once/turn. Then the two-drop one will look at the top card of your library and then cast them if they are a low-powered dork.

Toski, Bearer of Secrets is a 1/1 size that's uncounterable and indestructible and must attack each turn and trigger Rigo. All combat damage turns into card draw, ditto the four-drop Reconnaissance Mission! Then Mentor of the Meek will turn small powered stuff arriving into card draw if you spend a mana. That's not braked by nontokens; it'll work for them all.

Let's finish with card draw from damage and unblockable trio, the two-drop common shadow 1/1 will draw and then discard. Then the Standard legal two-drop with unblockable also turns card draw into discards but only until you have a full graveyard. Then the four-drop 1/3 horsemanship will turn card draw from damage and no discarding either. Love them loads!
