The Actual Best Commons & Uncommons in MSH Limited

Reddit

Marvel Super Heroes has been live on Magic Arena for over a week now. That means thousands of games have been played and we have tons of data. Because of this, we can see what the front-runners are in the Limited format.

White Uncommons

I made some good calls in my original preview of the set. White is looking like the strongest color, and it has many lower rarity cards with exceptional win rates

Agent Maria Hill and a handful of other cards are all around a B rating on 17Lands. She is mostly up there as a two-power one drop, but the Teamwork ability will come up occasionally.

Agent Maria Hill

Political Triumph is among the best Uncommons in the set, let alone White. It sports a 61.8% win rate. This shoots up to 66.1% if it's in your opening hand. That makes it a top ten card in the entire set, at any rarity. It drops significantly if you draw it later in the game, but not to unplayable levels. It's just fine if you don't have it in your opener. It is a one-drop, after all, but it's clearly a very powerful one.

Political Triumph

White Commons

Common saw similar successes as Uncommon in White. Web Up was an obvious choice, but it looks to be one of the best Commons in the set. It answers pretty much anything you need it to for 2w. It doesn't do anything exciting, but it is efficient.

Web Up

Hero in Training currently has the highest win rate of any Common in the set. White aggressive decks love keeping the cards -- and therefore pressure -- flowing. They also love the two life in mirror matches. As predicted, it is comically easy to trigger the bonus. This is especially true of assertive decks that are looking to start playing to the board on turn one.

Blue Uncommons

Justice, Vance Astrovik is up there with the Rares and Mythics of the set. With a 64.5% win rate, the Blue three-drop is the best Uncommon in the set. Everything that made it look good before the set came out turned out to be true. This card is just incredibly flexible, and the potential to be a three powered Flyer on turn three is excellent.

Justice, Vance Astrovik

The Azorious uw Flyer deck is top of the pile right now, and Justice is a big part of that. Right on his heels, or wings, is Falcon, Winged Wonder. A four power with Flying, and a nice bonus tacked on, is still a great way to win games of Limited.

Falcon, Winged Wonder

Blue Commons

Blue's impressive card quality continues all the way to the bottom. Trickster's Stratagem is an excellent version of this effect. It's mana cost of 3u doesn't get reduced like some equivalent spells, but getting to Connive is excellent. Even being stuck at Sorcery speed doesn't hold this thing back.

Trickster's Stratagem

The only surprise about S.H.I.E.L.D. Deployment Drone being here is that it isn't even better. Still, 61.5% win rate is excellent for a Common in 2026. This is at its best in the Azorius Flyer deck, but it's good anywhere.

Black Uncommons

In a set where the best deck seems to be an aggressive deck full of cheap Flyers, it makes a lot of sense that the best Black card provides hyper efficient removal. Dark Deed kills a wide array of Creatures in the format and is one of the best ways to fight against aggro decks. It does this for the low, low cost of 1b, making it the best speed bump in the format.

Dark Deed

Once you've slowed the game down enough, Madame Masque is one of the best ways to turn things in your favor. This five-drop provides value and multiple bodies. It doesn't necessarily stop those pesky Flying Creatures, but it can draw you into more removal. In the process, she makes more attackers with Menace. If this card gets going, it can end games on its own.

Madame Masque

Black Commons

Black's Commons are quite a bit worse than its Uncommons. Cruel Alliance being the best of them says a lot about the shape of the format. It's a 2b removal spell that requires you to tap a Creature to get the best out of it. The fact that the bonus is extra life speaks volumes. This card would obviously be good in any format, but the life gain is more important here than usual.

Cruel Alliance

The next best Black Common. HYDRA Infiltration is a Mind Rot for 3b that helps you to win a race situation. It's not great, but it's the best Black has to offer, apparently. It will nudge the game in your favour if it's currently even. If you're losing on-board, though, this card won't do much to help.

HYDRA Infiltration

Red Uncommons

For the second Marvel set in a row, Red has it rough. Jessica Jones is solid, as Uncommons go, but it's a long drop from there to the next best Red Uncommon. JJ is a slow but powerful card advantage machine. For 2r you're not going to be attacking or block with this 2/3 unless you absolutely have to. If she sticks around, though, she will provide a ton of resources. The problem is that she has very little support.

Jessica Jones

Photon Blast Barrage is okay. A 55.7% win rate is not great, but it's not terrible. The fact that it is Red's second best Uncommon is not a great look, though. The xrr mana cost means that this is never going to be efficient. It does have some flexibility in the sense that you can split the damage. The cost prohibits this card from being actively good, though.

Photon Blast Barrage

Red Commons

If you thought the Uncommons were bad, wait till you get a load of this section. Lightning Strike barely cracks the above average barrier. Red's two mana removal spell is barely better than the rest of the field. It's not that the card is especially bad in the set, but Red as a color is just very weak, and even its good cards get dragged down.

Lightning Strike

Hulk Smash being the second-best Red Common is baffling. As an Instant removal spell for 1r, it's alright. The other mode seems extremely situational, and so does the Teamwork bonus. This being so good, relative to the competition, says more about the competition than it says about Hulk Smash.

Hulk Smash

Green Uncommons

Green looks to be solidly middle of the pack. Ka-Zar of the Savage Land sports a respectable 61.1% win rate. The five drop that brings multiple bodies is a good place to be if you're not playing White, apparently. Like Madame Masque in Black, this is another Creature that stabilizes the board, provides some value, and starts to turn the game in your favor. This one only makes one Creature, but it's a pretty good one.

Ka-Zar of the Savage Land

Just behind Ka-Zar, Green's next best Uncommon is She-Hulk, Jade Defender. This is a huge stop for Azorius decks if they can't get it out of the way. A 4/4 for 3g is likely to be the biggest thing on the board, and having Reach is extremely valuable. The Power-Up ability is nice here, really coming across as a bonus. It feels great when it hits, but when it doesn't you still have a solid Creature in play.

She-Hulk, Jade Defender

Green Commons

Undercover Skrull is an important part of the best Green decks. Despite looking quite unassuming with a 1/1 body, it does a lot of solid work pulling various Green archetypes together for its low 1g cost.

Undercover Skrull

Ant-Man's Army is a solid playable, but it's nearly 1.5% win rate down on the second best Green Common: Go Nuts! This is a bit of a surprise inclusion, but Green does have the easiest time paying Teamwork costs. Go Nuts! only costs g, so you can easily cast a Creature that can pay the additional cost by itself. At that point it's basically Erase with extra setup, which makes for a pretty good card.

Ant-Man's Army
Go Nuts!

Conclusion

Marvel Super Heroes evidently has a lot of power at Common and Uncommon. While there are bombs, as in any format, you can easily put together a good deck that isn't reliant on them. This is especially true of the Azorius aggro decks. This archetype has multiple lower rarity cards that can go toe-to-toe with some of the best Rares and Mythics in the set.
