A Final Top 20 from Avatar: The Last Airbender for Commander

Hello all and happiest of days to each of you! Today I've got some fun stuff for each of you to discuss and talk about! This is my 4th and final Top Ten from the recently released Avatar set. Happy days to you! Next week the Jumpstart cards from it instead. I've been playing this actively in limited bunches! But my rankings are instead for kitchen table and casual play like multiplayer and Commander, Type Four and Pauper and Peasant, even the Five Color format and more. But the keys here to unlock my Top Articles are multiplayer minded.

Honorable Mention #2. (#22. Overall) - Two White Permanent Answers

I adore White permanent answers here, or in other colors and elsewhere too! First of all, that one-drop on-curve 1/1 cuties are first! When they die you eat them for three life. Then you can sac them for a Disenchant effect for two mana, no tapping, pretty good and it'll trigger deaths for the Orzhov stuff we also have going too. Then ever since O Ring was printed long ago as a temporary removal until answered was great! This above adds flash, amazing! Then you can sac it with three waterbend mana to sac and scry 2! Also? That'll trigger our stuff too.

Honorable Mention #1. (#21. Overall) - Momo, Friendly Flier

Next up is this fun one-drop mono-White flying 1/1 Commanderable rare! He also cares about Flyers type with that cost reduction, just like a Familiar! But just the first one! Then when one arrives, we can grow his size for the turn too! Love him, and then I just built around him this week too!

#20. Air Nomad Legacy

Next up is this two-drop Azorius also Flying matters enchantment! When it arrives, you can make a fun Clue! Then your flyers are perma-pumped with a +1/+1 like Favorable Winds for that cost! This is a great and fun thang too!

#19. Redirect Lightning

Ever since Deflection or Misdirection we've had these redirect thangs. This is just like Willbender in that era since only one thing with one target is redirectable. But you can also do abilities too, like ETB and such too. You can cast this one-cost base red rare Lesson easily. If you need to lose life or have the mana it's two more. It's great to skate!

#18. Zuko's Conviction

Zuko's Conviction

This one-cost instant Reanimation spell with a four kicker in Black is next! You can Regrowth a dork to our hand, and then if kicked? Drop it tapped instead! It's that instant speed ability that put it on the map in all of the major ways too. Embrace and run it. I think you'll like it much, in all of the great places.

Hello Izzet Spellslinger lovers! I've got your next win-con here! This cute three-drop uncommon X/3 flyer Dragon and Insect is here to answer your prayers! Its power is our non-land or dork count in our graveyard! Then it's got flying and a bit of ward for protection. Then it has a death trigger to replace itself in card form like Solemn when it bites it! You only need a Lesson in there to make it happen.

#16. Buzzard-Wasp Colony

This fun four-drop uncommon Black flyer with a 2/2 body and two great flyer types that are supported in Birds and Insects is next! When it arrives, you can swap a dork or artifact for a card on a sac counting thing too. Then when other things we have die with counters, they head here, which is what puts it here. That combo is great in sac brews Aristocrats, or Counter ones too. I have run this well in limited, and that second draw this turn also turns on tons of stuff too!

#15. Master Piandao

This fun five-drop 4/4 first striker is next! He is on a legendary Ally body. When he swings you can dig four and then draw an Ally, Lesson or even Equipment too! He's basically an attack Impulse but limited in what you can get! Outside of running or supporting those three types, I like him with red bunches, since they can give him haste and then Relentless Assaults for another trigger too. Love him!

#14. Diligent Zookeeper

This fun Green four-drop dork and on-curve size at 4/4 is next! On an Ally type creature too. Then this is a great super-anthem that pumps our non-Humans equal to their type totals. Great in tons of places, like the first one above or Zombies or Vampires or Dragons or Angels or Beasts or Elves or Dinosaurs and just in its own brew too. It's not legendary though, so that cannot lead a Commander brew, but not bad supporting one with a few types, especially that costs three. Just drop this next turn when you swing.

#13. Zuko, Exiled Prince and a Shout-Out to the Firebending Student

Hello Firebending fans! I've got this fun mono-red duo next. That four-drop uncommon 4/3 legendary leader can attack for three firebending and then can spend three without tapping to Impulse draw the top card of our library with it, and since we didn't spend real mana for it, we should have tons left too for the casting of what we exiled. Shout out to the two-drop prowess 1/2 one here too with firebending at their power - also easily three too or more.

#12. North Pole Patrol

This fun three-drop mono-Blue 2/3 is next! It can tap to untap a permanent of ours on an Ally body. This is great to do with making mana from Sol Ring to Islands to Birds of Paradise. Or you can untap our Commander after attacking or another beater too, or just reuse an Arcanis or Jayemdae Tome too. Then you can untap after someone attacks your way and block. Then you can waterbend it with three to tap an opposing dork too. Not too shabby, right? Right!

#11. South Pole Voyager AND Wartime Protestors

This Boros Ally matters duo are next! Each of them are on curve and have an ETB trigger for when it arrives and then aren't legendary either and are rare too! The former White rare Bear one gains a life each time they arrive! Then on the second time, draw. Then that latter four-drop red one with haste beats! Then when one arrives you can toss a counter on it and then haste-ify it too! Nice combo.

This fun 4/6 five-drop uncommon red legendary Assassin is next! When it swings you can destroy an opposing thang unless they eat its power in damage! Remember if they did, then they would still take damage from it if unblocked or to what blocks too. That's pretty rough even in 40 life formats. Just insert a haste and power pumper and you are rough to deal with very fast, or people are going to lose their stuff instead. Since they choose, they'll grab the least bad option for them. Target their defender to make them pay life if one. Also, once again, might I suggest Relentless Assaults here?

#9. Katara, Bending Prodigy

This fun legendary uncommon Ally Blue-three-drop 2/3 lady is next. You can waterbend six over and over to draw! Then you can EOT if she's tapped grow her permanently with a counter of the good stuff. Love her in all of the places.

Next up are this fun and powerful two-drop 1/1 Orzhov sac matters dork. When your stuff is sacked, toss a counter here! That's for everything from artifacts like Clues or Treasures to dorks like Sakura-Tribe Elder or Viscera Seer to lands like fetches to enchantments and planeswalkers too! That's great! And then when this bites it, we can exile it and recur a dork of that size or fewer in cost to the battlefield! And if you have the Buzzard-Wasp above move them to it too! Nice for twice!

#7. Two Colorless Two-Cost Lesson Mana Helpers

The two-cost sorcery Lesson with kicker 2 as well will gain two life and then toss a land to our hand! Then if kicked? A Shrine too! Great two-for-one there. Then the instant speed one is a cantrip to replace itself. Then all of our lands are all basic land types this turn - great for Cabal Coffers to Anger to Gather the White Lotus to domain and tons more. Embrace this mana-making couple!

#6. Suki, Courageous Rescuer

This fun three-drop 2/4 that pumps your dorks front by one in rare on a legendary Ally body is our sixth pick! Whenever another thang leaves play you can also make a fun 1/1 Ally token too! But just once per turn. Note that's not dies, or is sacked, but just leaves play too. Like Airbending or exiling or bouncing and such too! She's great to get us to a good place!

And next up is this fun instant and Lesson five-cost too! We search our library for four lands with different names and then our foes choose two for our hand and two for our graveyard. With Crucible effects, you can get them all! They don't even have to be basics either! Get all of the Urzatron or nasty lands like Nykthos and Coffers! This already existed as Realms Uncharted for less mana, hence it hitting here, but outside of that or with it it's great to go, Idaho!

This five-cost sorcery mythic rare in Red is next! It makes so much mana too since now all of our dorks get firebending five! Remember this has to be used in combat, but with Comet Storm or other X spells or instant kills you can kill players with it! It's got foretell too.

Next up are this transforming duo. The three-drop Azorius flash, flying 2/3 legendary leader is here! You can airbend on arrival another dork or spell, anyone's too. He's an Ally too. That's great from a few angles. First, you can flash out him as a 2/3 blocker to chump, or kill outta nowhere. Or do it to counter a spell or delay something for the turn too. Then waterbend him to transform for eight mana, and then he's a reaching trampler with 5/5 size and then when they swing you can toss a counter onto all tapped dorks too!

This four-drop 2/2 Green Ally and earthbend 2 is next! What makes him nasty is that once each turn when putting counters onto any dork, you can also gain that much life too! That's just bonkers in all of the places, right?? I added him to one of my Commander brews and then he also just took over a game against me in real life too! He just won all of the games too. Great to skate, love this little thing so very much!

This fun five-cost uncommon Blue sorcery is next! It has two options when it resolves. The first is to make a 4/4 Hero copy that's not legendary of our thing. That's why most players will add it. Then the latter makes a 2/2 Coward copy not legendary of our foe's thing instead. Everyone likes Clones in Commander, ideally that aren't legendary of their leader too built in, since that's what they built around right? Here it's a little worse since it must be a 4/4 and then costs one more than Spark Double and such too. That's why it's here too, but get ready for this to have great value after some others too.

And there we go! I hope you enjoyed our looksee at my favorite cards from the set! Normally I do next the other ones from this set, like Jumpstart. But I'm thinking instead some Top Multiplayer Cards from 2025 and Top Commanders Not to Play From 2025 would make sense too, so we'll probably do them next.
