With the growing pace of Magic: The Gathering releases each year, it's difficult to keep track of every new set, Secret Lair drop, and supplemental release that hits the market.
What's more, the new (and controversial) Universes Beyond strategy shakes up that schedule more than ever before.
What does this mean for the set release schedule of 2026? The short answer is many sets that reflect multiple universes across various intellectual properties.
The long answer: let's take a look at the full release schedule for 2026.
Upcoming MTG Sets
With tons of exciting spoilers already floating around the web, you probably know what's coming soon, but below, you'll find a deep dive of all the upcoming (and past) releases for the year.
Marvel Super Heroes - June 26, 2026
Marvel Super Heroes is the big Summer release and a UB set in partnership with Marvel. As with many Universes Beyond sets, this one will draw upon a far-reaching cast of characters from throughout the Marvel universe. There will be superheroes, villains, equipment, and epic abilities brand new to Magic.
Power-up is a spin on exhaust, giving Creatures an extra boost they can use only once. Teamwork N is spin on kicker (like many mechanics): you tap any number of untapped Creatures you control with total power N or greater, and your card does a little extra.
There's even a new Enchantment subtype called Plan, which functions similarly to the old quest cards from original Zendikar.
Being only days away, most of Marvel Super Heroes is already spoiled, and it looks like it'll be a major hit amongst Magic and Marvel fans alike.
The Hobbit - August 14, 2026

After players have their fill of Marvel, we'll be heading back to Middle-earth for Magic's next release, The Hobbit. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth was a major success for Wizards of the Coast back in 2023, so it's no surprise at all to see a return to the beloved world.
Despite being a couple months away, we have had a peek at several cards. Adventures will be returning with a twist: rather than Creatures having Adventure spells, we see that other permanents, such as Artifacts, include Adventures as well. The One Ring is arguably the Artifact that most merits an adventure spell.
We'll also see the return of many beloved characters, including Bilbo Baggins, Smaug, and Thorin. If you haven't seen the special Dwarven language cards exclusively in collector boosters, you really ought to check them out -- they're a guaranteed hit amongst fans. Here is what Arcane Signet will look like in Dwarven:

Reality Fracture - October 2, 2026
While a couple dozen cards (including artwork variations) have been spoiled thus far for The Hobbit, Magic's next in-universe release, Reality Fracture, has been kept further under wraps.

Here's what is known so far. Reality Fracture is a Magic world that represents an alternate version of the reality we're used to. It's reminiscent of what Planar Chaos was, but perhaps without breaking the color wheel as much.
In this world, called "Jace's Echoverse," Chandra is a Blue Planeswalker. Instead of "Torch of Defiance" she becomes "Chill of Compliance." Neat, huh?
There's no way to tell what other color changes will show up in this set. One thing's for sure, this set will be a delight to players who have been enjoying Magic for years -- there's bound to be numerous easter eggs and other fun throwbacks.
Star Trek - November 13, 2026
The final premier set release of 2026 is Star Trek, another Universes Beyond set sees us boldy going where no Planeswalker has gone before.

Seeing as the set is still five months away, very little is known by the general public about this set. Only one card has been spoiled so far, but it tells us a little about what to expect from the set.
The card is Captain Kirck, Boldly Going, a Bant (![]()

) colored Legendary Creature that has Vigilance and grants spacecraft Creatures you control a generous +3/+3.
We can expect a lot of callbacks to Edge of Eternities as a lot of care was put into both EOE and Star Trek, which were developed concurrently.
Lastly, Captain Kirk, Boldly Going gives us one more valuable piece of information: there will be a card named Starship Enterprise as well. While this is no surprise from a flavor standpoint, it is the perfect teaser for the November set.
Previous 2026 Set Releases
To round out the year's MTG release schedule, here is a look back at the sets we've seen so far this year, beginning with the most recent.
Secrets of Strixhaven - April 24, 2026
Prior to Marvel Super Heroes' release in June, Secrets of Strixhaven is the most recent premier set release. It is currently available for drafting on Arena, though players may be experiencing a little "five-color soup" fatigue.
Despite the polarization of this set's Limited experience, the return to Magic's most beloved school was a major hit, with many iconic cards impacting Standard, including Izzet staples Colorstorm Stallion and Flow State.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - March 6, 2026
Players were apprehensive about the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after the largely unsuccessful release of Spider-Man, another smaller Universes Beyond set. Fortunately, TMNT fared more favorably, even providing a decent Limited play experience.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles included some interesting mechanics such as Sneak (a play on Ninjitsu) and Alliance (a return from Streets of New Capenna). The set also brought us a new artifact token, Mutagens, a welcome addition to the list.
Most notably, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the first Universes Beyond release of 2026 -- the first of four for the year!
This distribution of Universes Beyond sets and "Universes Within" sets may be here to stay, at least as long as it fuels Hasbro's bottom line. Time will tell if the broader community embraces these IP crossovers ongoing or if WOTC will need to make additional pivots.
Lorwyn Eclipsed - January 23, 2026
With such a packed year, it's easy to forget that Lorwyn Eclipsed was 2026's first Magic release.
There's an entire Elementals deck in Standard that exists thanks to Lorwyn Eclipsed. The set has made a huge splash in the format and was a relatively enjoyable Draft format to boot.
Remember how there were five central Creature type themes? They were Elves, Goblins, Elementals, Kithkin, and Merfolk. And then there were the other color pairs, with a smattering of common Creature types but far less synergy: Faeries, Treefolk, and Giants.
The less-supported types were a strange inclusion and led to a few traps in Limited. Overall, the return to the world of Lorwyn was quite succesful since its original debut in 2007.
Release Schedule for Other Magic Products
In addition to premier sets, Wizards of the Coast has released numerous supplemental and non-booster products throughout 2026. Here's a quick rundown of the notable ones.
Secret Lair Drops (SLD)
According to Scryfall, there have already been 221 individual cards released as part of Secret Lair sets so far in 2026. That number doesn't even reflect everything because Dandan was released in 2026 but contains a 2025 copyright date.
- Rad: January
- Brain Dead: February
- Lorwyn Prints Charming: February
- Roll for Initiative: February
- Dandan Deck: March
- So Salty - Roadshow Edition: March
- Totally TubuLair: March
- Deadpool - I fixed It You're Welcome: March
- MagicCon Las Vegas Festival in a Box: March
- Back to School: April
- Goblin Storm Commander Deck: May
- Inked & Back in My Day: May
- Mood Swings: June

There are numerous Secret Lair drops scheduled for the back half of 2026. According to some Reddit speculation, these include:
- K-Pop Demon Hunters
- Monster Hunter
- The Hobbit Set: August
- Reality Fracture: October
- Countdown Kit 2026: November
- Star Trek Set: November
Besides Secret Lair drops, Wizards of the Coast pumps out an array of additional supplemental products.
For example, each set release includes a handful of on-theme Commander decks, typically including a mix of reprints and brand-new cards. These are released around the same time as their respective premier sets. Additionally, there are the Theme Decks, released with each premier set, that are meant to be 60-card decks ready to play right out of the box.

There are also Draft Night boxes for premier sets. And sometimes Jumpstart boosters. And even occasional novels.
Wrapping It Up
Clearly, WOTC is striving to deliver something for every Magic fan out there.
Regardless of how you enjoy the game, there are likely products in the upcoming Magic release schedule for you to enjoy. The key is to stay focused on what matters most to you from the next group of releases, pay attention to the schedule, and ignore the noise.
