Hello and happiest of days to each of you! Are you building a Five Color brew kitchen table deck from 60 cards to Commander to the Five Color format proper? Love it! Today I am going to give you my top support stuff for you, they are not necessarily with a 5-color identity, although many will be. This is not a list of multiplayer good stuff like Rhystic Study and mana rocks like Sol Ring but instead stuff specific to the 5 Color needs. Last week I published my Top 5 Five-Color Commanders here.
Ready? I got you!
Honorable Mention
Dryad of the Ilysian Grove
This fun three-cost 2/4 good for blocking enchantment dork is first. It's an Exploration on legs - good for swinging and blocking. Then your lands are every basic land type - great mana smoothing there from Maze of Ith to Forest. There is nothing worse than having good stuff in Five Color and then not being able to cast it, and five color is very nasty at that so we'll have more ramp stuff here.
Bringer of the Blue Dawn
This nine-drop 5/5 trampler in Blue is next, with an alternate cost for just five mana total one in each color - then draw two more in your upkeep - that's just nasty good. And the cheaper cost makes it all five colors in identity, but it's very easy to reliably get.
Etched Oracle
You'll adore this four-drop colorless sunburst with the ability to for one mana, no tap, to remove four counters from it and then Ancestral Recall. You can do it as soon as played and if you give it another counter from something it'll survive, and any slate of mana can work as long as it's one of each color. Let's work it!
Mirari's Wake
Everyone's favorite early multiplayer classic and then a 5-Color classic too with the five-cost for a Glorious Anthem that pumps your team and then a Mana Flare for just you. It was the first self-Mana Flare and it's easily worth the humble five mana for it.
#5. Bringer of the Black Dawn
This Black one in the Bringer cycle was so good it was banned and in your upkeep instead of drawing two you get a free recursive Vampiric Tutor. Sure, it's going to your deck's top spot and not your hand, but you can draw it that turn in your draw step. Run and break the game and get combo pieces, win-cons or the perfect dork, or just what's needed to keep you alive. Get it now, cast it on this turn too! What's not to love here?
#4. Birds of Paradise and other Tap for All Colors
Everyone wants a first turn BoP to ensure ramp and colors get right too we prefer that to Sol Ring or Skullclamp or Sensei's Divining Top. Some will run things like the Mana Elves and two one-drop exalted Hierarches but I often prefer my next one to be 2-drops like Sylvan Caryatid or even Utopia Tree. Love this loads!
#3. Coalition Victory
Ah yes, one time banned in Commander but now on the Game Changer list! This eight-mana sorcery with all mana colors literally wins the game for you this turn if you've got one of each color of dork and one of each basic land type - with Triome lands and duals and tons of 5C creatures too, that's both easily done. I took it for a spin in Commander after the unbanning here.
#2. Faeburrow Elder AND Bloom Tender
Ironically our second highest slot is this two-set. The three-drop Selesnya colored is a mana dork with vigilance so you can swing and then tap in the second main phase. Then it taps for one mana of each color you control! Since it's two colors, that's a minimum of it, and it gets size equal to the mana you are tapping for. Then the two-drop mono-Green Mana Elf with 1/1 size also has the same tap ability, in just one color so your minimum is less, without vigilance and size, but cheaper and the first one printed with the ability to inspire the Treefolk.
#1. Leyline of the Guildpact
This four-drop enchantment with four hybrids and all Green and something else so you could cast this in a Green brew or many 5C brews heavy in Green is tops! You can even drop it free if in your opening hand! Your dorks are every color type - great for Coalition Victory or Jared Carthalion. Then your lands are every basic land type - great combo off a free card? That's brokenly good to my mind! There are few 5C brews that couldn't use it.
There're my Top 5 Five-Color Support spells! Enjoy this much, and then see you next week for more fun stuff!
