Hello and happiest of days to each of you! A few weeks ago, I began a column looking at the best in class for various categories of ramp: my Top Mana Dorks, Land Acceleration creatures, Ramp Spells, and then Exploration effects, and then a general article on all things mana. I've even written an article on when to use Manaliths and Cultivates, all for casual and multiplayer.

Landcycling was introduced in Scourge with the printing of landcyclers like Chartooth Cougar that could get one specific land type (including dual lands and triomes) and put it in your hand. Basic landcylers that let you search for a basic would come later (thinks Ash Barrens). This was a great revelation to the game since you could later Reanimate them in your Graveyard with stuff like Living Death, even after getting their value (like Twisted Abomination). Today we are looking at all of my favorites landcyclers!

Honorable Mentions

Monstrosity of the Lake - This great legendary Kraken five-drop 4/6 also islandcycles for two mana, and then when it ETBs you can pay five to tap all opposing dorks and put a stun counter on them! Not bad.

Malboro -This six-drop Swampcycling 4/4 has one of the best ETB abilities for multiplayer. You will have every foe discard a card, lose life and then exile three from the top of their library. When Liliana's Specter ETBs it also forces each opponent to discard - which made it beloved in multiplayer. Embrace this!

Ruin Grinder - This splashable six-drop 7/4 Red artifact dork with menace is a mountaincycler and has a death trigger to have everyone Wheel of Fortune, but it is a "may ability," so heads up.

Angel of the Ruins - This seven-drop 5/7 artifact lady with flying has plainscycling and then an amazing ETB to exile two artifacts or enchantments!

#5. Basic Ally-Gold Spells Basic Landcyclers

Next up we have our only cycle on the list, and they are pretty pushed. These are the five Ally-colored spells with basic land cycling for . In name order: Ancient Excavation for four that lets you draw a number of cards equal to your hand size and then discard that many cards - mad card flow and graveyard filling. Grave Upheaval is a Zombify for six that brings a creature back from any graveyard with haste! Migratory Route makes four 1/1 flying Birds to block or kill out of nowhere for the same price as Ordered Migration. Sylvan Reclamation is a spell version of Angel of the Ruins! And Treacherous Terrain pings each opponent for damage equal to their land count.

4. Ash Barrens

This is a great colorless tap land that can basic landcycle for . Use that on the first turn after dropping your land to fix your mana for your second turn. Love it!

3. Krosan Tusker

To my mind, the best basic land-cycler is the original! Normally, landcycling would replace the card drawn, but not here! Here you'll still draw too, so this is pure card-draw and mana smoothing but the cycling is Green and entirely splashable. This is like Green's Divination. It's great everywhere!

2. Lorien Revealed

This five-cost Concentrate is our penultimate pick! Lorien Revealed also Islandcycles for a single mana. Draw cards or cycle for an island: neither side is bad!

1. Eternal Dragon AND Timeless Dragon

After it was printed, nothing dominated Casual, Five-Color, or Multiplayer like Eternal Dragon or its modern take Timeless Dragon. They are 5/5 flying bodies with plainscycling for . The first costs seven mana, but is here because it self-recurs for five mana during our upkeep. Timeless Dragon is more on-curve at five-mana, but only comes back once with Eternalize, which you can cycle and then cast from the graveyard. Although, if you just want an on-curve 5/5 flyer to bring back with Karmic Guide and such, this is a great option!
