European Wizards Play Network Update

Recently /r/magicTCG has seen multiple threads addressing stores in Europe losing their Wizards Play Network status. The result of losing this status often leaves the people posting the original thread unable to play sanctioned Magic in the way to which they have become accustomed.


In a statement released on May 19th Dan Barrett, a Community Manager for Europe, attempted to address these concerns. The article explains that one of the main concerns raised on /r/magicTCG, that of stores having to host events outside of their retail space, is unfounded:


We want to make it clear, however, that suitable play space does not mean the same thing in Europe as it does in the United States. We understand the challenges some European retailers face, and we work with them on those issues. The amount of play space and holding events only onsite are not restrictions we place on stores in the WPN. Many stores around the world operate in smaller spaces and hold events offsite, and that's something we often encourage.
