Right now, Modern is all about the Eldrazi, which means anyone looking for an edge is trying to break the mirror without giving up too many points against the rest of the field. At the Pro Tour, the Blue builds proved to have a huge edge in the Eldrazi mirror, in large part due to Drowner of Hope. But what beats Drowner of Hope? This U/W build posted by Luis Scott-Vargas may have a solution:

In many ways, this is a fairly typical Eldrazi deck. You’re still very much focused on the combination of Eldrazi Temple and Eye of Ugin to power out the likes of Thought-Knot Seer and Reality Smasher. The difference is this build has given up the creature-lands in favor of Adarkar Wastes and Corrupted Crossroads, which allow you to splash both Blue and White for Drowner of Hope and the mirror-breaker, Eldrazi Displacer.

Eldrazi Displacer is a big deal in this new format. It’s role as a mana sink allows you to either lock your opponent out of combat or, perhaps more importantly, rebuy your Thought-Knot Seers, Drowner of Hopes, and Eldrazi Skyspawners. Part of the reason this build is such a good call for the metagame is you gain so much against the other top deck, Affinity. Eldrazi Skyspawner is a great blocker and Eldrazi Displacer does a great job of fighting against Arcbound Ravager and Cranial Plating.

The really exciting part of this list, however, is the sideboard, which shows just how much the format can evolve in a very short time. Two copies of Vesuva function as additional copies of Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple in the mirror. Hurkyl's Recall and Stony Silence help to fight against both Affinity and Ensnaring Bridge decks. Relic of Progenitus helps to buy time against Living End and other graveyard decks capable of racing your Eldrazi beat down. Even in the face of a format full of Eldrazi, it’s exciting to see just how quickly technology can evolve. I don’t know how the Eldrazi deck will adapt to stay ahead of the format, but I certainly can’t wait to find out.
