The Best One Piece Cards of 2024

Reddit

The year 2024 has sailed over the horizon and it was an impactful one for seafarers who either jumped into the One Piece Trading Card Game for the first time or continued their journey. Where we got only 4 sets in 2023, 2024 brought us two additional sets to add to the card game that served as extensions to the core expansion. In 2024 the One Piece Trading Card Game also had a small set release that provided 3 new leaders and unique cards that were printed to provide support for leaders that do not see much play within the current meta. The set was called Extra Booster and brought some excellent cards to us such as Kid & Killer and Kingdom Come.

In addition to this very literal named set Extra Booster in November of 2024, we also got another set called Premium Booster which brought to us premium card art and different foil types that aren't available elsewhere. Premium Booster brought us Jolly Roger Foils and Textured foils, and new art for cards like Sanji's Pilaf and Ryuma.

While the pictures don't do them justice, there are some excellent looking texture foils from the set Premium Booster.

But even outside of the two extra sets we were gifted by Bandai this year (Extra Booster and Premium Booster), we got to experience OPTCG Set 6 Wings of the Captain, Set 7 500 Years in the Future, Set 8 Two Legends, and Set 9 Emperors in the New World. All of these sets brought their own powerful cards, so let's go ahead and outline some of the best cards from each of these sets from 2024.

The Best One Piece Trading Card Game Cards from 2024

Let's start off with some big hitters from the first set to hit shelves in 2024, Wings of the Captain.

Set 6 brought us some Iconic characters that are still making a big impact in the current meta. I am mainly referring to 9-cost Roronoa Zoro and 8-cost Gecko Moria.

With Zoro, Green truly stuck true to its common attributes. If a Green leader is trying to go a more controlling route, the leader will most likely house cards that rest opponents' characters. If a Green leader is wanting to approach their opponents more aggressively, they'll find a way to swing more than once... And if we know anything about Zoro, he is a very aggressive individual. Zoro is a 9-cost 9000 power character with an ability that allows you to unrest him twice for the total cost of 3 DON!!, meaning you have the capability of swinging 9000 power at your opponent, or their board, a total of 3 times. Nine times out of ten, if your opponent can't get rid of this menace, a win is easily within your grasp.

Let's say you utilize Zoro to his fullest potential and you end up wiping your opponent's board... Well, who's to say your opponent's characters will stay dead? I've talked about this character plenty, he has become a Black staple after all, but Gecko Moria just can't let characters stay dead. Gecko Moria is an 8-cost 9000 power character with an On Play that returns one character with a cost of 4 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield active and then you may return a character cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield rested. This character alone allows for a lot of second chances that, as long as his On Play goes off, can give you multiple lines that could lead to success. I won't go into too much detail, but temember that Rebecca is a 4-cost blocker.

Moving along let's take a look at Set 7, 500 Years in the Future. This set brought in a large assortment of Mono-colored leaders that the meta in One Piece TCG was missing. Two of the noteworthy cards from this set are leaders, as a matter of fact. Out of this set we got our first real control leader within Mono-Green, Jewelry Bonney, and a returning Character in the form of a leader with a buffed up ability, Rob Lucci.

Both Jewelry Bonney and Rob Lucci uphold the standard statistics for mono-colored leaders of 5000 power and 5 life while also holding their own abilities. Jewelry Bonney has an activated ability that allows you to pay 1 DON!! During your opponent's attack, once per turn, that allows you to rest an opposing character or leader... really making your opponent think about their next moves. Rob Lucci, however, has an ability that says on attack you may trash the top 2 cards of your library and give up to one of your opponent's character -1 for the turn. Rob Lucci allows the player to fill up your graveyard for recursion and meeting other card requirements (such as the event Tempest Kick) while also assisting in most removal efforts in this color.

Powerful cards within Set 7 were not limited to leaders. Purple character Porche and yellow character Monkey .D. Luffy have both made their rounds in the meta within different leaders.

Porche is a character played on turn two who searches your library for a Foxy Pirate card and then you may put up to 1 purple character with 4000 power or less onto the field. You can whiff the search but for 3 DON!! you can put close to a total of 9000 potential power onto your board. Monkey .D. Luffy is a character that can be played on turn three with 6000 power who has an ability that be activated during the main of your turn, or your opponent's. If you have 2 or less life cards you can trash you Monkey .D. Luffy and K.O. up to one of your opponent's characters with a cost of 4 or less. After you K.O. one of their characters, you can then reward yourself by drawing a card. So... ultimately, pay 5 DON!!, ensure your life is 2 or less, trash Luffy, get rid of something on their board, then replace Luffy in your hand? Sounds powerful to me.

Moving down our timeline of 2024 we have Set 8 Two Legends, a set that focused on some well-established characters who were in their prime within a very different era in the One Piece storyline. Those characters are none other than Silvers Rayleigh and Edward Newgate. Now, this set was didn't only have cards for those two characters, but some of the most memorable cards from this set included their crewmates. Let's talk about Silvers Rayleigh the Character and yellow character Nami.

Starting off with the Navigator of the Straw Hats, Nami is a 5-cost character with 5000 power whose abilities are not limited to her subtype, much like Porche. She has an On Play that allows you to trash 1 card from your hand with trigger and then you may K.O. up to one of your opponent's character with a cost of 5 or less. Then if you have 3 or less life you can draw a card. She is pretty similar to the Luffy character we discussed previously, but her ability is an on play instead of an activated main meaning she does have a deterrent in playability if you are concerned about Marshall .D. Teach leader.

However, from a completely different era, Silvers Rayleigh is a 8-cost 8000 power character with an on play that says you select up to two of your opponent's characters and give one of them -3000 power and another one of your opponent's characters -2000 power until the end of your opponent's next turn. Then, K.O. a 3000 power or less character. Silver's Rayleigh isn't just a high cost/high power character but also decreases the amount of threats on your opponent's field.

Yet, like Bandai does at the end of every year so far, the most impactful set of the year was truly Set 9 Emperors in the New World.

Almost every leader that came out of this set was an absolute power house. Namely, Marshall .D. Teach and Shanks. But unlike our discussion of Set 7, I am going to refrain from going over those leaders. They both speak for themselves by their presence alone.

For this set, we are going to take a look at a different Shanks, another Monkey .D. Luffy, and Nico Robin.

Shanks is a very straightforward big threat of a character with 10-cost, 12000 power, and a constant effect of -1000 power to all of your opponent's character. To tie all those things up in a pretty bow, Shanks also has Rush. The closest card I can relate this character to is my personal favorite character, 10-cost Kuzan. The main difference is his ability is only in effect during your turn instead of as long as he is in play.

Now, Luffy is a 9-cost 10000 power character that also has an on play of returning a DON!! to your DON!! deck from the field and then you draw one card and Luffy gains rush for the turn he is played. Much like the one who inspired him, he is a big ol' purple threat that can rush in to close out a game.

Next up, Nico Robin is a 6-cost 6000 power yellow character who, like Luffy, has an On Play that states if your opponent has 3 or more life cards, trash up to 1 card from the top of your opponent's life cards. If your opponent is down to 3 life but you want to ensure your next attack hurts? Poof, just drop Robin. There's no extra cost like drawing a card form life or pitching a card from hand or event putting Nico Robin in the trash. Plain and simply, play her, her on play triggers, and suddenly your opponent is now at 2 life and really feeling the pressure.

But these are the cards that I've found to be the most memorable from 2024. This was only year 2 for the One Piece Trading Card Game, and we have many exciting sets ahead of us. Are there cards you would've added to this list? Until the seas do us part next time, fellow seafarers!
