Hello everyone. Last week, I started my series of articles looking at decks that are focused around a specific color for our current Standard environment. I started with Green decks last week, and this week it's time to look at some White-based decks. Let's get started.
Mono-White Artifacts
Starting things off this week is a Mono-White deck that utilizes some great artifacts to pull out victories. Let's take a look at the deck.
Mono-White Artifacts | EOE Standard | ACCILLESS, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (2)
- 1 Solemn Simulacrum
- 1 Summon: Knights of Round
- Planeswalkers (4)
- 4 Ugin, Eye of the Storms
- Sorceries (4)
- 4 Day of Judgment
- Artifacts (26)
- 1 Nexus of Becoming
- 1 Ring of the Lucii
- 1 The Eternity Elevator
- 1 The Irencrag
- 2 Ghost Vacuum
- 2 Hedron Archive
- 2 Instant Ramen
- 4 Candy Trail
- 4 Mazemind Tome
- 4 Thrumming Hivepool
- 4 White Auracite
- Lands (24)
- 10 Plains
- 2 Ishgard, the Holy See
- 4 Demolition Field
- 4 Fountainport
- 4 Secluded Starforge
Thrumming Hivepool is a card that's getting quite a workout in Standard, even though there are no other Slivers anywhere to be seen. For each copy of Thrumming Hivepool, you'll create two 1/1 Sliver creature tokens at the beginning of your upkeep. Your Slivers will have haste and double strike, making them immediate threats that your opponent must contend with. Thrumming Hivepool also has affinity for Slivers, so you might be able to play additional copies of it for free on a future turn.
While this horde of Sliver tokens might be able to finish off your opponent, having a little help never hurts. Summon: Knights of Round offers that extra help. For its first four chapters, you'll create a total of 12 2/2 Knight creature tokens. Once you get to chapter 5, all of your other creatures will get a +2/+2 bonus, plus indestructible counters. That bonus plus all of the additional creature tokens should give you a leg up on your opponent.
Sneaky Slivers
Speaking of Slivers, the next deck I have for you also features them. Let's check it out.
Sneaky Slivers | EOE Standard | TheSplinterTwins, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (12)
- 2 Enduring Curiosity
- 2 Entity Tracker
- 4 Gremlin Tamer
- 4 Optimistic Scavenger
- Enchantments (20)
- 2 Dollmaker's Shop // Porcelain Gallery
- 2 Seam Rip
- 4 Caretaker's Talent
- 4 Leyline of Transformation
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- 4 Stormchaser's Talent
- Artifacts (4)
- 4 Thrumming Hivepool
Much like the previous deck, Thrumming Hivepool plays a key role in this Azorius deck. By giving your Slivers haste and double strike, you're able to attack for a lot of damage very quickly. The main drawback is that there are no other Slivers in Standard. Or are there...?
This deck utilizes Leyline of Transformation to transform all of your other creatures into Slivers in addition to their usual types. Every creature you control, whether they are from creature spells you cast or creature tokens you create, will be Slivers and gain haste and double strike. That makes it more difficult for your opponent to effectively block, and more likely that you'll draw extra cards while you have Enduring Curiosity in play.
Orzhov Sacrifice
The next deck I have for you gains value whenever its own creatures perish. Let's take a look at the deck.
Orzhov Sacrifice | EOE Standard | MTG_Joe, aetherhub.com user
Vengeful Bloodwitch is one of the newer creatures that causes your opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life whenever a creature you control dies. Creatures like this are lynchpins in what is known as an 'Aristocrat' deck. These decks usually have multiple ways of ensuring that they have a way to sacrifice their own creatures so they can take advantage of this draining effect. Umbral Collar Zealot and Bartolome del Presidio both fill this role. Sacrifice all of your creatures with this pair, and then return everyone to the battlefield with Raise the Past and do it all again.
Voice of Victory can also offer a lot of draining due to its mobilize 2 ability. Whenever Voice of Victory attacks, you'll create a pair of 1/1 Warrior creature tokens that are also attacking. Whether your opponent blocks and kills them or whether they deal damage to your opponent, they will be sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step. As long as Voice of Victory remains alive, you can do this turn after turn, draining a lot of life points in the process.
Boros Burn
Next, I have a Boros deck that can attack for a lot of damage very quickly. Let's take a look at the deck.
Boros Burn | EOE Standard | MTG_Joe, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (18)
- 2 Nova Hellkite
- 4 Fanatical Firebrand
- 4 Hired Claw
- 4 Screaming Nemesis
- 4 Viashino Pyromancer
- Instants (12)
- 4 Boros Charm
- 4 Burst Lightning
- 4 Lightning Helix
- Sorceries (8)
- 4 Boltwave
- 4 Plasma Bolt
With Nova Hellkite, Fanatical Firebrand, and Screaming Nemesis all having haste, you'll be able to attack your opponent right away, dealing some important damage very quickly. Doing this is very important, as you'll want to get your opponent's life total as low as you can before the battlefield gets too gummed up with defensive creatures.
Once that happens, attacking profitably will be difficult. Luckily, this deck includes Red mana, so you'll want to switch gears and become a burn deck. Cast direct damage spells on your opponent, depleting the last points of their precious life total. Generally, you'll just want to point these spells at your opponent instead of their creatures, but many of them are able to destroy potential attackers. Use your best judgment when deciding what to target, but realize that the final few points of damage will usually come from a spell rather than an attacking creature.
Selesnya Lifegain Angels
The final deck I have for you this week features some flying creatures that can gain you a lot of life. Let's take a look at the deck.
Selesnya Lifegain Angels | EOE Standard | SwayzeMTG, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (22)
- 3 Exalted Sunborn
- 3 Wilt-Leaf Liege
- 4 Llanowar Elves
- 4 Outcaster Trailblazer
- 4 Resplendent Angel
- 4 Seraphic Steed
- Instants (4)
- 4 Get Lost
- Enchantments (7)
- 3 Anthem of Champions
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Artifacts (3)
- 3 Herd Heirloom
- Lands (24)
- 5 Plains
- 8 Forest
- 3 Restless Prairie
- 4 Hushwood Verge
- 4 Starting Town
Exalted Sunborn is an all-star for this deck. As a 4/5 creature with both flying and lifelink, you're likely to be able to evade many of your opponent's blockers, dealing damage to your opponent and gaining extra life in the process. Exalted Sunborn also creates double the amount of tokens whenever you would create any, which will be very important for you.
Resplendent Angel is another key creature in this deck. As long as you're able to gain 5 or more life in a turn, you'll create a 4/4 Angel creature token with flying and vigilance. Attacking with Exalted Sunborn is one way you can gain 5 or more life (if you're able to boost its power). Alternately, you can enchant one of your creatures with Sheltered by Ghosts, which not only acts as removal of one of your opponent's creatures, but also gives lifelink to one of your creatures. Gain a bunch of life; Create a bunch of Angel tokens; Defeat your opponent.
Wrapping Up
White based decks are some of my favorite decks. I love gaining life, creating tokens, and attacking with a large group of creatures. If you like these things too, you should try out some of these decks.
What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
