2026 is shaping up to be quite an epic year for Magic: The Gathering with a whopping seven Standard-legal sets releasing. The preview season for Lorwyn Eclipsed - the first set of the year - kicks off in just a few weeks on January 5th. For the holidays, however, Wizards has opted to skip ahead a little bit - four sets ahead, in fact - to give us our first look at Marvel Super Heroes.

Previously, we'd only gotten a look at some of the artwork for the set during the MagicCon Atlanta Preview Panel. This included a wide range of heroes and villains alike and gave us our first look at exactly what we should expect to see from the next Marvel release.
Following hot off the heels of the widely panned Marvel's Spider-Man, many players have been looking at this release with trepidation. Now, we have our first real taste of just what we can expect to see.

In an unusual twist to how these WeeklyMTG first look preview streams are typically done, host Blake Rasmussen took a journey out to Burbank, CA to the Command Zone headquarters. There, he was joined by Rachel Weeks of said Command Zone as well as actor Gabriel Luna to show off several of the sweet cards from the upcoming Marvel collaboration. Luna has previously played the role of Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and is also a passionate Magic fan. Talk about a great fit!
Following some gushing about Marvel and Magic, the group jumped straight into the previews with one of the most beloved Marvel characters of all time!
It's quite a fitting preview, beating up some Hydra baddies and using his signature shield to save and protect others. This one is a great fit, even if it may not be quite perfect for something like Commander (at least in the command zone. Nevertheless, it's almost certainly destined for some solid aggro play in Constructed formats everywhere.
Speaking of solid cards with Constructed potential, take a look at The Sentry, Golden Guardian. A four-mana 5/5 with those kinds of abilities? Sign me up! The Void token will simply attack, be blocked by The Sentry, and then you can attack back pretty easily. Sounds like a great top-end card if ever I've seen one!
Next comes Quicksilver, Brash Blur and this one is one heck of a doozy. Quicksilver is a fan favorite character, particularly due to his incarnations in the X-Men films where he was played up in extremely comical fashion. Here, he gives many players flashbacks to the likes of Unhinged classic Rocket Powered Turbo Slug and comes in right out of the gate...provided he shows up in your opening hand, of course.
After that comes one that might be a bit lesser known for some in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. This card can get quite big provided you set it up effectively, making for an extremely sweet build-around card for a variety of play-styles.
Few things are as iconic when it comes to the Marvel universe as Galactus and his battles with the Fantastic Four. Heralded by the arrival of the Silver Surfer, Galactus appears to devour the earth, but is stopped by the heroes. This saga depicts this excellently, with it making a mighty Galactus token at the end that does outrageously powerful things.
The Coming of Galactus is only the start of what might be considered the Fantastic Four section of the presentation. The Super-Skrull - a character known for using the abilities of each of the Fantastic Four characters - is represented here with four unique abilities that each reflect these powers.
Then we get our first look at The Fantastic Four themselves. This collection of cards featuring the characters comes not from the main set, but rather the Commander set. Unlike Marvel's Spider-Man, this set was revealed to have four Commander decks. While we've yet to see what they are and who is helming each of them, it has been revealed that all four of these legends will make up the basis for just one of the decks. This allows players to select their favorite of the Four and have them lead the charge.
But of course, what Fantastic Four segment wouldn't be complete with one of the greatest villains of all time: Doctor Doom. Not only is this a pretty sweet legend, but it comes with another interesting card as well: Doom Reigns Supreme. This is an all new enchantment type: a Plan. The idea is, naturally, that they represent a plan taking shape from villains and potentially heroes alike. It'll be interesting to see what other Plans we see in the future, but for now, this design looks particularly interesting.
We also got to see the Thunderbolts Conspiracy. While many modern audiences have come to know the Thunderbolts from the movie of the same name (aka The New Avengers), Blake noted on stream the original comic story was a little different. There, villains played themselves off as heroes in order to infiltrate the ranks of the heroes in an attempt to destroy them from within. Their leader, Baron Helmut Zemo, also gets a proper representation here.
What kind of Marvel Super Heroes set would be complete without Big Green himself? This card provides tons of awesome value before Bruce Banner Hulks out. Players - including Rachel Weeks - quickly determined as well that Caltrops goes infinite with The Incredible Hulk. Even without an infinite combo, though, it's still quite an unbelievable house of a threat.
The second and final saga this time around depicts one of the most iconic Incredible Hulk stories of all time. Following a harrowing series of tragedies that involves the deaths of his family, Hulk returns to Earth and wages war against the world. This saga lets you play The Incredible Hulk with ease and then go absolutely nuts with it - or whatever other creature you choose to play with it instead.
Last but not least, we get a cool pair of Atlantean merfolk. I know that I've seen a number of merfolk fans eagerly excited for these. Each boosts merfolk strategies quite a bit, with Namor the Sub-Mariner going especially nuts. After all, who doesn't love to get an unfathomable number of tokens simply for casting the other spells in their decks?
Additionally, we got some great classic comic book covers appearing as special card variants for a select number of legends. Much like Marvel's Spider-Man, each is a classic cover repurposed with all the appropriate card text for a Magic card. Each of these will show up as exclusives in collector boosters for those daring enough to seek them out.
Also, like Marvel's Spider-Man, the return of the borderless Comic Panel variant treatments. While not directly taken from the source material, they're meant to depict sagas in the style one would expect to see from the original comics they stem from. It's a sweet nod to the original medium of comics that inspired this set in the first place.
Finally, we have a whole bunch of new Source Material bonus sheet cards. Each of these takes from an iconic piece of art from the original comics, be it cover art or certain panel shots. I'm not showing all of these as there are too many that were shown off, but the mix of choices is excellent. Extinction Event depicting Thanos's snap from the comic books particularly stands out for how stark it looks in card form.
Perhaps one of the more interesting aspects of this is the inclusion of three different artworks for Heroic Intervention. The popular Commander staple sees multiple depictions of the various Marvel heroes. Because of this, it also makes it so there are four instances of the card in the Marvel Source Material Cards set, with the fourth being from Marvel's Spider-Man. This makes it a safe bet that we'll see more versions of this card with future Marvel releases.
Last but certainly not least, I'd be remiss if I didn't include this classic panel on Horn of Greed. It's been infamously edited and memed to death, but it's clear that Doom does as he pleases.
While we've now seen all of these cool cards, there is still much to be revealed at this time. Wizards has yet to reveal product images - particularly for the various Commander decks - as well as revealing information about the release dates. As such, this was likely meant to be a fun preview for the holidays given the myriad number of Marvel fans out there.
