Everything Revealed at MagicCon: Atlanta About Magic in 2026

Reddit

This past weekend saw the latest MagicCon event come and go in MagicCon Atlanta taking place in Georgia. The event was bursting at the seams with excellent Magic gameplay, panels, shops, community engagement, and more.

As is often the case with events like these, several upcoming products and cards were revealed over the course of the weekend. Wizards not only gave us our first taste of Lorwyn Eclipsed, but they also showed off nearly every set coming out in 2026. Additionally, a whole host of Secret Lair products were shown off as well as a handful of surprises.

Today, I'm going to break down everything for you to read through all in one place. There is an absolutely absurd amount of ground to cover, so let's kick things off with the most obvious place to start: the Preview Panel.

The Mana Stage crowd of #MCAtlanta is hype, our hosts are shining under the lights, and we're ready to showcase the next year of Magic at The Preview Panel!

The Preview Panel has become a mainstay of MagicCon events. At each of these, several new cards are shown off - sometimes from one set, sometimes multiple - and various other things are revealed as well. For example, during the last one, we got to see not only cards but also early looks at the Untold Stories: Elspeth comic and dates for next year's round of MagicCon events.

Lorwyn is a whimsical plane rooted in Celtic mythology and populated by many different creature types, minus humans. Lorwyn is a plane divided between two halves, light and shadow.

It's been a while since we've been here, so enjoy some familiar faces! #MTGLorwyn

The panel kicked off proper with a deeper look at Lorwyn Eclipsed. Throughout the panel, we were treated to numerous glimpses into the gorgeous art that made the plane of Lorwyn stand out in a fresh and innovative way.

Morningtide's Light

The cards started pouring in shortly after, with the dichotomy of the plane being on full display. Many players look back on the world and think about Lorwyn itself most specifically, but it's important to remember that it coexists with its opposite in Shadowmoor. The two planes are one and the same, allowing cards like Morningtide's Light and Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight to reflect the changes the shift between the day and night worlds brings.

This was also prevalent in the characters that were shown as well. Fan favorites from our first visit to Lorwyn return once again. This time, rather than having two separate versions to denote their shifts between Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, transforming double-faced cards allow us to see both sides of them. Here we see Sygg of Sygg, River Guide and Sygg, River Cutthroat fame as well as Ashling, a protagonist of the original Lorwyn story before taking a darker turn when Shadowmoor rolled around. Here, her Shadowmoor side is cooled, as the elemental humanoids take on a Blue side this time around wielding icy coldness compared to the flickering cinders of original Shadowmoor.

Perhaps one of the most exciting cards to be shown off was the reveal of Bitterbloom Bearer. Bitterblossom was one of the most popular tournament staples back in the day and it only made sense to bring it back in a new form. Now, rather than trying to find a way to deal with an enchantment, you merely pick off the creature making the tokens. Will it still be good enough? Time will tell, but that doesn't take away from these stellar depictions of the card - particularly the serialized headliner by Rebecca Guay.

Emptiness
Deceit

Evoke elementals were also shown to come back once more. While it's unclear at this point just how many of them we'll see throughout the set, the two revealed here - Emptiness and Deceit - provide some freshly unique takes on this kind of creature. Depending on the kinds of mana you pay for the cost, you get one or both effects. However, you can only get one ability off of the evoke effect, allowing for some interesting dynamics of play.

Mutable Explorer
Figure of Fable
Ashling's Command

Three other cards were shown soon after, each calling back to a beloved style of card from the original Lorwyn and Shadowmoor blocks. Mutable Explorer is a classic changeling creature that generates a Mutavault token when it enters - a great way to bring back the powerful land without it being overbearing in Standard. Figure of Fable also calls back to the famous and influential Figure of Destiny, while Ashling's Command sees the return of Commands that first saw their start as a cycle in Lorwyn.

If you already called it, give yourself a pat on the back. That land art from earlier is indeed Shock Lands!

They just happen to be Borderless and Reversible, so you can rep either Lorwyn or Shadowmoor with your hot new lands. #MTGLorwyn

The main previews capped off by revealing the remaining five shock lands. Not only did we see their new normal art, but each shock land was revealed to have a double-faced version that would depict the land on both Lorwyn and Shadowmoor.

Before we leave Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, we've got something for the D&D fans! A new digital expansion, Lorwyn: First Light, introduces a new player species, Rimekin and a full bestiary of monsters from the plane.

Wizards also revealed that a new digital expansion would be coming to Dungeons & Dragons with Lorwyn: First Light, bringing new elements to the beloved game.

Releasing at the same time as Lorwyn Eclipsed but perhaps not quite related. We are launching a series of Standard-legal 60 card theme decks that are ready to play with your friends as an entry point for new players!

Wizards paused momentarily here to also reveal two upcoming preconstructed decks for Standard: Angels and Pirates. While the initial reveal didn't show off any of the contents, players found product images that depicted the lists. These can be found online, but most notable about them was the supposed discovery that Spell Snare would be revealed in the Pirates deck!

We're venturing beyond the school walls of Strixhaven to experience Arcavios like you've never seen it before.

In addition to some familiar faces, we have a fresh batch of new students! We're not spoiling too much, but you might meet some of them sooner than you think. #MTGStrixhaven

Next we start to see what the other sets throughout 2026 are going to look like. The first is Secrets of Strixhaven. While very little was revealed about the set, a new art was shown and the focus is expected to be somewhat less involving the college itself. Instead, there is a stronger emphasis on the greater world of Arcavios. The set was stated to be released in April 2026.

In addition to the #MTGStrixhaven web fiction there will be a full novel set in the school of Strixhaven penned by Seanan McGuire!

Omens of Chaos is a YA novel set at Strixhaven about the first-ever class of interplanar students who have journeyed to the school via Omenpath.

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:18 PM

Additionally, it was revealed that Magic would once again see its first foray into paperback works since Forsaken: War of the Spark with the set. This will come in the form of Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos - a new young adult novel by renowned author Seanan McGuire. This will focus on Strixhaven's first interplanar class who traveled to the plane of Arcavios via the omenpaths.

A book promo!? In 2025!? Pick up a copy of Omens of Chaos when it releases to get your hands on one, while supplies last! #MTGStrixhaven

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:19 PM

Those who purchase the book during its initial print run will also receive a Strixhaven themed copy of Command Tower. Be sure to pick it up and support physical media works!

The second set of the year is an unannounced Universes Beyond set dropping in March. Don't worry, you won't have to wait long to learn more.

We'll unveil this particular secret at New York Comic-Con on October 10th!

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:19 PM

From here, we also saw the announcement of, er, an unannounced Universes Beyond set. While the property behind this set was not yet revealed, it was shown that it would be released in March 2026. The set itself will be revealed at New York Comic-Con on October 10th with many speculating it to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Next up was the second Marvel release: Marvel Super Heroes. This set is going to release in June 2026 and will feature a whole host of various characters, heroes, and villains from throughout the Marvel universe. This way, we get to see a wider world with what is expected to be a far richer set than the currently controversial Marvel's Spider-Man release.

While no cards were shown for the set, numerous art pieces were shown off instead. These depicted wide swaths of characters from throughout Marvel's decades of releases. It'd be impossible to show them all here in an efficient manner, so I'd recommend looking throughout social media to see them all. You can find them all on the Magic: the Gathering BlueSky page if you scroll down a bit to where the Preview Panel reveals are shown (as of time of writing).

Join Bilbo Baggins, Thorin, Gandalf, and all your favorite characters on the journey to the Lonely Mountain! There may or may not be a dragon involved. #MTGxHobbit

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:26 PM

Next comes the reveal of Magic's August release: The Hobbit. This comes as a no-brainer following the overwhelming success of The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and was teased shortly before the event. Now we'll get to see the journey of Bilbo as he makes his way to the Lonely Mountain and confronts the mighty dragon Smaug.

October 2028 was also shown to be the finale event set of the current story arc, and it is going to be called Reality Fracture. Little is known about the set at this time, though a piece of art may have been run out a little early on accident for the set.

Last but not least, the long-rumored Star Trek expansion has been revealed! This set is slated for November 2026 and will cap off a year filled to the brim with Standard releases.

Fans of the Star Trek series can expect tons of fan service and nods from throughout not just the original series but later ones as well. That means no matter what particular flavor of Star Trek you may like, there's sure to be something for you. And for those of you who, like me, may not be much of a Trekkie, it's still certain to be an exciting release for nerdom in general come the end of 2026.

We might not be able to tell you TOO much, but we can give you the name of this climactic set: Reality Fracture

The reveals weren't quite done, though. In addition to next year's releases, there is one final round of Final Fantasy goodies still to cover. Much like how TLOTR: Tales of Middle-earth got a holiday release, so too does this one. While it lacks LTR's fancy collector boosters, we do still get the scene boxes this time around. Three were shown off by Wizards, including the one above showcasing the very first Final Fantasy game for the NES/Famicom.

Edea, Possessed Sorceress
Search for Dagger
Fishing Gear

Additional scene boxes were revealed for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy XV. Later on, Square-Enix themselves revealed the fourth and final box celebrating Final Fantasy IX. Each comes with six new cards, special art card versions to showcase the scene art for the cards, and three play boosters.

A special Commander bundle is also coming! Get your hands on the original PC Release of FINAL FANTASY VII, a Limit Break #MTGxFINALFANTASY Commander deck, and a promotional printing of Cloud, Midgar Mercenary featuring original art from the game.

Available in US only.

Wizards also revealed a special release of the Limit Break Commander deck for Final Fantasy VII. This version of the deck has a special box depicting the cover art for the original PlayStation classic on it, which is also used on a special promo copy of Cloud, Midgar Mercenary in the deck. Finally, the deck also comes with a digital code that can be redeemed for a PC copy of the game, so if you pick up the deck and want to know what the cards represent, now you can find out for yourself.

Now for the last thing we're talking about for the #MTGxFINALFANTASY Holiday release and it's been tough to hold this one back. Everything is better with more Chocobos after all!

The Chocobo Bundle contains 10 Play Boosters and so much more.

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:48 PM

Last but not least is the Chocobo bundle! This special bundle release features a special life counter, new art on the card box inside, and 10 play boosters. It also happens to have some really cool cards in it as well that are unique to the box!

Paradise Chocobo is the promo for this particular bundle, representing beloved Magic classic Birds of Paradise. Bundles are also known for containing several lands and this one is no exception, boasting several full-art basic lands with chocobo tracks all over them. You can also find special unique foil borderless copies of a variety of legends from throughout the main Final Fantasy set as well as the Commander release. There is one particularly unique card as well, though, in that some players may find their bundle contains a special copy of Snapcaster Mage!

First up, a look at an exclusive promo of Yuna, Grand Summoner! This promo will be available to players at a future #MTGxFINALFANTASY WPN event while supplies last! Keep in touch with your Local Game Store for more information!

-- Magic: The Gathering (@magic.wizards.com) September 26, 2025 at 1:42 PM

A Yuna, Grand Summoner WPN promo was also revealed to be coming soon as well. However, no additional information was provided thus far.

Welcome to the Secret Lair Reveal Party, let's get this celebration started! If you're at #MCAtlanta head over to the Mana Stage to watch live.

-- Secret Lair (@mtgsecretlair.com) September 26, 2025 at 2:30 PM

While that may have wrapped things up for the Preview Panel, there was still the Secret Lair reveal panel! This panel focused mainly on revealing the lairs for the October Secret Scare Superdrop, as well as a few other goodies.

First up was the Artist Series: Kieran Yanner lair. Each of these were pieces done by the beloved iconic artist and represent many of the game's earliest cards all coming straight out of Alpha. This lair generated a ton of buzz for its inclusion of Demonic Tutor.

Next came Secret Lair x Jaws: Terror of Amity Island. Jaws is a tremendously iconic film from the prolific director Steven Spielberg and sees an incredible set of cards to represent this here. The famous movie poster makes up the art for the shark itself - a surprising Red card where sharks are often Blue. Others like Sneak Attack and a chum-filled Blood token make up an incredibly thematic lair.

In perhaps one of the most bizarre and unexpected Secret Lair reveals of all time, it was revealed that Magic would be collaborating with The Office. Fan favorite character Dwight Schrute gets his very own lair, depicting several bizarre looking cards that have left many players absolutely bewildered - for better or worse.

The next lair, Dreaming Darkly, depicts some Black and White art by artist Jim Woodring. Each of these is a surreal and otherworldly visual look that many will find striking - particularly Guardian Project's wide host of monstrosities.

Next is quite possibly my personal favorite set of lairs here. It's no secret that I'm a lifelong metalhead and I've loved the works of Iron Maiden for decades. Not only is their music legendary, but so too is the art displayed prominently on their albums. Now, many of these iconic artworks come to Magic: the Gathering as incredible cards like Grave Titan, Animate Dead, and Temporal Trespass.

That's not the only collaboration with the beloved metal band, though. Several original pieces were done for a set of new cards depicting the band's mascot, Eddie. These include art by Magic and Iron Maiden artist Dan Mumford showing sweet new versions of Windfall, Mindcrank, and the appropriately named Iron Maiden cards. Eddie gets some much more classic interpretations as well from current Maiden artist Akirant to produce some excellent new treatments of classic legends.

Speaking of classic legends, the next lair - Trick or Treat - depicts several children dressing up as Magic legends for a night of trick or treating on Halloween. In addition to the central figures on the art, many other characters can be seen in the backgrounds as well.

Perhaps the most surprising reveal, however, were the various Furby crossover lairs. The first, Secret Lair x Furby: Doo-ay Noo-lah, depicts Furbies as you might expect them to be shown as cute and cuddly creatures. Each of these cards is bright, vibrant, and boasts flavor text in "furbish," the language of the Furbies.

The second lair - titled Secret Lair x Furby: The Gathering - depicts these little critters as they might appear in the world of Magic. Some are fun and goofy, like Tamiyo feeding a Furby, while others can seem terrifying like the giant Furby screaming at a horde of goblins in Tormenting Voice.

If you thought that was horrifying, though, you haven't seen anything yet. Secret Lair x Furby: The OddBodies depicts a much more grotesque and scary interpretation of Furby. If you've been around the internet long enough, chances are you've seen some of the weird and creepy ways people have taken and modified actual Furby toys into strange things. This is an interpretation of how these would look in a realistic setting, showing just how out-of-the-box some properties are willing to take their IPs.

Two players. 10 fish. 80 cards. Get ready for Chaos Vault: Dandân, a complete Forgetful Fish experience featuring brand new Dandân card art.

-- Secret Lair (@mtgsecretlair.com) September 26, 2025 at 3:10 PM

After the reveal of the various October Superdrop lairs, Wizards showed off an upcoming Dandan lair that will be coming to the Chaos Vault. This lair will contain a full deck that allows players to experience the Dandan fan-made format (aka Forgetful Fish) which includes several borderless and retro frame cards. This gives players the opportunity to experience the format themselves as well as providing needed reprints for hard-to-reprint cards like Magical Hack and Crystal Spray in a reasonable way.

A is for "AAAHH we're so excited!" The Secret Lair Countdown Kit is back, and this year's theme is An Encyclopedia of Magic. Each card starts with a different letter of the alphabet from throughout Magic's history.

-- Secret Lair (@mtgsecretlair.com) September 26, 2025 at 3:16 PM

Wizards also revealed that they are bringing back the Countdown Kit for Secret Lair. The previous one for the game's 30th anniversary proved tremendously popular and boasted all kinds of unique art styles. This time it will feature a card for each letter of the alphabet and include even more wild artwork. Only three pieces were shown so as to keep the rest a surprise for players to open later.

Finally came the reveal of a collaboration with PlayStation to come on October 27th. Cards representing characters from many of PlayStation's most beloved franchises including The Last of Us, God of War, Uncharted, Horizon, and Ghosts of Tsushima will be coming to Magic. While only some cards were shown off, some additional ones were discovered on Wizards' website and shared around on social media. I won't be sharing those here so as to keep the surprise for those looking to see them firsthand, but suffice it to say these will be some fairly exciting releases for fans of these series.

And of course, to cap things off, we got to see the world championship card for Jean-Emmanual Depraz. Formidable Speaker was revealed during the Pro Tour coverage stream this weekend and will be coming in Lorwyn Eclipsed. It looks quite potent and is sure to make a splash in Constructed Magic everywhere.

That's been a lot to cover and go over from MagicCon Atlanta. The event was packed to bursting with all manner of sweet cards, new set reveals, and eye-popping collaborations.
