Disney Lorcana Archazia's Island Review: Sapphire

Reddit

It's release season, and we're going to just come right out the gate with the ink that wholeheartedly received the most support for this set, and it's Sapphire. An ink known for ramping and inkwell manipulation, affinity for items, and large threats, Sapphire will be a force to be reckoned with. Pair it with Ruby for ramp/removal or ramp/burn synergies, or Steel for direct damage removal and some Resist support as well. The possibilities are endless, and here are the cards that you're going to want to get as soon as possible!

Belle - Apprentice Inventor

Belle is one of many pieces in this set that will be meta-defining. Ruby/Sapphire decks that once struggled with aggro decks finally have some protection as soon as turn one. Sapphire/Steel as well, with more 1-cost items to banish for her ability, What a Mess. Her synergies with her Floodborn version for this set, Belle - Mechanic Extraordinaire, is another threat to look out for. Banishing items is not difficult for Sapphire, and if your opponents are focused on removing your items as well, it's just fueling the fire.

Figure out how to include Belle in your Sapphire decks, or figure out how to deal with her, because you'll be seeing a lot of her very soon.

Tamatoa - Happy as a Clam

As if Tamatoa didn't already have an amazing card from The First Chapter, he's back and better than ever. Recovering items banished by either yourself or your opponent is nice, but his ability, I'm Beautiful Baby, is absolutely back breaking if he's able to pull it off. A free Lucky Dime on turn seven is nothing to scoff at, and you'll have the ink to activate it right away as well. While his Willpower is in range of an And Then Along Came Zeus, Sapphire has a few ways of granting its characters Resist, meaning you'll need a bit more fire power to handle him. He also has one of the best enchanted artworks on this set, making him an absolute card to chase for.

Sapphire Coil

Sapphire Coil is an absolute menace to this set in early testing, and it's without a doubt going to be meta-defining as well. Being able to reduce Strength for more favorable trades or outright removal by Ruby is going to ensure Ruby/Sapphire is established as a tier 1 or possibly a tier 0 deck right out the gate. Removing it only helps Sapphire even more if they're item-focused with Tamatoa - So Shiny! And Tamatoa - Happy as a Clam. Having one Sapphire Coil on board seems somewhat manageable, but having two or more will absolutely spell disaster, giving cards like Brawl, Sisu - Daring Visitor, Sisu - Empowered Sibling, and Brawl even more value no matter in what state of the game you're in. I'm hopeful in figuring out answers for this one, but I'm more hopeful in having to actually play this to have just as much value as my opponent does when wreaking havoc across each other's board.

All is Found

All is Found is a Sapphire song giving Sapphire more of what it does best - ramp. Synergizing with "when a card is put into your inkwell" effects, you're looking to get to your late game threats much faster than your opponent can handle them. With it being a song, that means your 5 cost and higher or characters with Singer 5 or more can sing it, leaving you with your inkwell free to spend on what makes the most sense to develop at that point. Solid card, and a very beautiful enchanted version to boot.

Scrooge McDuck - Resourceful Miser

Scrooge McDuck - Resourceful Miser is my last pick for this early follow list because it seems to just fit well with Sapphire. There's a world where Sapphire/Steel has 4 or more items out at a time allowing for this character to be played for free, just by exerting 4 items. Then, digging for an item is the icing on the cake. Reducing character cost is a great ability when facing cards like Be King Undisputed and Lady Tremaine - Imperious Queen to keep your bigger threats alive.

Here are the Top 5 Sapphire cards I'm keeping an eye out for in Archazia's Island. We haven't included any dual inks as they'll get their own article, so stay tuned for that. Keep an eye out for the rest of the base inks this week as we're building up to a strong start. This article was brought to you by CoolStuffInc, the best place to not only buy these amazing Sapphire cards, but more Disney Lorcana and other popular TCGs, such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and YuGiOh!
