Disney Lorcana Archazia's Island Review: Dual Ink Cards

Reddit

Greetings, Illumineers! We've saved the best for last. Dual-Ink cards are a new concept for Disney Lorcana, strengthening the identity of each ink-paring with cards that blend core concepts into one card. There were a lot of cards showcased, so it'll be hard to narrow them down, but here are my top picks of dual ink cards from Archazia's Island.

Bolt - Superdog

Bolt - Superdog leads the pack as our first dual-ink to review. The flexibility Bolt brings to a multitude of Amber/Steel decks gives it a lot of credibility, whether it's in aggro, mid-range, or song-based builds. In songs, as long as you're using Steel removal to deal with early turns, you can shift Bolt - Superdog early to apply the passive lore gain from "Mark of Power". The other ability, "Bolt Stare" is very niche right now, given that Illusion characters haven't become too problematic yet. However, that might change with Reign of Jafar, which in that case, Bolt - Superdog is ready.

Giant Cobra - Ghostly Serpent

Speaking of Illusion-based characters, Giant Cobra - Ghostly Serpent is an above average character stat-wise, with an on-play effect that allows you to gain 2 lore without interaction from the opponent. Amethyst/Steel decks got a really good addition to their deck since an Amethyst deck sitting at 12-15 lore is like a regular deck sitting at 17-19 lore. Now you have another threat to worry about allowing them to cross the finish line even faster, or establishing a stronger board presence keeping your characters in check. Thankfully, Vanish is a keyword that will allow easier removal, granted you have an action that can target it. We'll be seeing Giant Cobra around for a bit, so keep that in mind while you're building your new decks!

Hiro Hamada - Armor Designer

You know what's worse than dealing with a character with Evasive? Dealing with one that has Ward as well. Now what if your shifted Floodborn characters had both? Well, Hiro can be your hero for hire in that case. With enough shift targets in both Emerald and Sapphire, you will be hard pressed to not have a character to shift this on. I knew when Morph - Space Goo came out that he would continue to be impactful in future sets, and it clearly shows here. There's another card we'll review shortly that synergizes well here too. With Ruby/Amethyst having less of a lead in meta presence now, it's going to take a lot more non-targetable removal to deal with decks using this. I believe this will be a severely underrated card early on and a highly contested Set Champ card given that he was selected for the special treatment.

Baymax - Giant Robot

Baymax - Giant Robot has the unique mechanic Universal Shift, which allows you to shift it on ANY character (opposite of Morph - Space Goo, actually). Because of this, it synergizes well with cards like Tipo - Growing Son for a solid threat on turn three, thanks to ramp from "Measure Me Again". Emerald/Sapphire Floodborn Evasive Ward could be an archetype being slept on right now, and with cards like this and Hiro, you're going to need to be a bit more strategic with your removal options.

Ink Geyser

I promise, I tried to select something else, but this ended up turning into the Emerald/Sapphire variety hour! We're going to cap it off with one of the most impactful cards so far, and it's Ink Geyser. This is our first true introduction into ink destruction, but in an Emerald kind of way. The ink that seems to be the least impacted by this unironically is Sapphire itself, since you'll need to ramp back up quickly to fill out your curve, unless you were expecting this play and need to essentially restart the game at 3 ink again. Emerald/Sapphire is a force to be reckoned with in this set, and Ink Geyser will be the source of much frustration once people start experimenting with it more. Either play this, or find ways to play around it.
