The Zendikar block began in October 2009 with the release of the Zendikar set. The block was code named 'Live', 'Long' and 'Prosper.' It's entrance into standard caused the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block to rotate out, and in extended triggered a rotation such that Mirrodin would be the earliest set allowed in the Extended format. The Zendikar block is unusual in that it is composed of a large set, small set and then a third large set. The last set, Rise of the Eldrazi, being separated from the prior two sets in limited play meaning it would be drafted alone and used alone in sealed deck.
