Weekly Sale Commander - Gods and Monsters!

Reddit

Hi folks! Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column! This column will show you some cards on sale that might spice up your lists or inspire something completely new. These lists will usually be Commander lists in Bracket 3, you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods.

If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices; if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods, add more along with some other competitive combos.

Keep in mind that the "game changers" in your deck aren't the only thing that moves you up and down a bracket. Your intent with your deck; inclusions of other interactions, engines, and combos; and overall playgroup should all be factors in your bracket!

Remember that the weekly sale ends on Sunday night at 11:59 PM EST, so you have until then to get your cards ordered.

For this week's sale, we have entered the Gods and Monsters sale! This is one of my personal favorite sales because I get to feature one of my own personal lists this week! This sale is full of Gods and Demigods and I have a Five-Color Gods deck led by the duo of Child of Alara and Jegantha, the Wellspring.

Child of Alara
Jegantha, the Wellspring

Yep, you guessed it, this is another 101-card special, due to the Companion mechanic! Basically, as long as my deck fits within Jegantha's restrictions, I get to have a Companion outside of the 100-cards, provided that it's within my color identity. Child of Alara is great for a Gods deck because Child destroys the board quite often, and the majority of our creatures are indestructible! Let's get into it!

The Gods!

Let's start with the obvious. We're playing God-Kindred, and I've included every relevant God that fits within Jegantha's restrictions (no repeat mana symbols in costs). Klothys, God of Destiny and Pharika, God of Affliction help me keep graveyards in check for a low mana cost! Thassa, God of the Sea will help me fix my draws and attack unblocked, and the duo of Ephara, God of the Polis and Erebos, God of the Dead give me some card draw when I need it.

Thassa, God of the Sea
Iroas, God of Victory

Iroas, God of Victory and Xenagos, God of Revels give my creatures some aggression, Nylea, Keen-Eyed and Kruphix, God of Horizons give me some pseudo-ramp, and Phenax, God of Deception is an alternate win condition! Athreos, Shroud-Veiled is the best Neoform search in the deck, but we'll get to sacrificing Child of Alara later. Finally, we've included The Locust God to give us a neverending supply of tokens as we need them!

Enchantress!

If you haven't picked up on my list preferences at this point from last week's Valentine's Sale or the Caturday Sale, I really enjoy Five-Color Enchantment decks and I really like Companions. This list blends both of those together! Because most of the Gods from Theros block and Theros Beyond Death are also Enchantments, then we can benefit from playing an Enchantments-Matters style deck!

Cards like Sanctum Weaver and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove give us some good ramp in an Enchantments deck. Copy Land is an Enchantment that will also ramp us and sometimes copy a neat utility land! Leyline of the Guildpact would be a great opening hand card in this deck, and Awaken the Honored Dead + Sterling Grove give us some utility!

Zur the Enchanter

We play one of the original big baddies of Commander, Zur the Enchanter. Let me tell you that from experience, having Zur tutor up Awaken the Honored Dead or Thassa, God of the Sea feels *phenomenal*.

We also play Academy Rector, which goes well with our destroying Commander, Child of Alara, and Idyllic Tutor, for some good Enchantment tutoring. Speaking of tutoring, Invasion of Theros // Ephara, Ever-Sheltering will tutor up a God for us and potentially transform into Ephara, Ever-Sheltering!

Let Child be Free!

To round out our deck, we've included ways to help Child of Alara die so we can benefit from its trigger to destroy all nonland permanents. Gift of Immortality has a neat interaction with Child that makes it so that it basically always stays attached to Child as long as you stack your triggers right. Rushed Rebirth will let us tutor out a creature from our deck (including a God) when we point it at something about to die.

Desperate Plea

We've also already mentioned Neoform, but sacrificing as a cost is great in this deck! The newest addition from Avatar: the Last Airbender Eternal, Desperate Plea can destroy and recur, although most of the time we're just gonna recur if we're sacrificing Child. Life's Legacy will give us some card draw, and Midgar, City of Mako benefits as a land we can play as well, similar to Lazotep Quarry being a land with a sacrifice ability as well!

Along with Academy Rector, we also play Chaos Defiler, another card with a great trigger when it dies (and when it enters here too!), letting us destroy nonland permanents with a little bit of chaos. We'll add a little bit of ramp with Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Faeburrow Elder, Wood Elves, and Chromatic Lantern, and our deck is ready! Well, almost ready, we need Game Changers!

Change the Game!

This deck is an absolute *prime* candidate for Coalition Victory. That being said, I had it and I cut it because I wanted to see if Rhystic Study could be fair in Bracket 3. If you don't like Rhystic Study, put in Coalition Victory instead!

Along with either one of those, I've also included Enlightened Tutor as the premier Enchantment tutor and Serra's Sanctum as a great Enchantments-Matters Land. Other options include The One Ring (since it's indestructible), Smothering Tithe as an overall good Enchantment, and Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, which thrives in multicolored decks with Blue and White.

Another option that you have is to remove Jegantha, and then you get to play cards with multiple mana symbols in their costs! Cards like Esika, God of the Tree, God-Eternal Oketra, and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might come to mind.

Beefing this up is also quite easy. We play Heliod, Sun-Crowned, so an easy include would be Walking Ballista for a two-card combo. Add some fast mana and some more Game Changers and you'll fit right into Bracket 4!

Here's the list, thanks for reading. See you next week. As always, feel free to reach out on socials (I'm mattynewns on most platforms) if you want to debate my lists or try to play a game online!
