A Wrath of Gods

I feel that “wrath” is an appropriate collective noun for gods . . . a Crash of Rhinos, a Murder of Crows, a Wrath of Gods? And speaking of gods, this week’s puzzle involves a lot of them.

Using only cards from Shadowmoor and Eventide other than Umbral Mantle, cast all ten Spirit Avatars (Deity of Scars, Demigod of Revenge, Deus of Calamity, Divinity of Pride, Dominus of Fealty, Ghastlord of Fugue, Godhead of Awe, Nobilis of War, Overbeing of Myth, and Oversoul of Dusk) as quickly as possible.

You have perfect luck. For example, even after you shuffle your library, it’s ordered how you want. You may not assume anything about your opponent’s hand or library except that he won’t do anything relevant.

Attacking “quickly” refers to both the turn of the game and whether you’re playing or drawing first. Turn three on the draw is quicker than turn four on the play but not as quick as turn three on the play.

Send your solutions to nex342+puzzle at gmail dot com with the subject line “Puzzle – A Wrath of Gods”, and I’ll include the best ones in next week’s article along with the next puzzle!

Good luck!

Solution to Last Week’s Puzzle

The fastest mill victory in Odyssey block was turn two on the play, and the first person to send me such a solution was Nick Tower. The solution is as follows:

Play Cards in Graveyard Mana Cards in Hand
Turn one 0 0 7
Forest 0 g 6
Krosan Wayfarer 0 0 5
Sacrifice Krosan Wayfarer, putting an Island onto the battlefield 1 known u 4
Mental Note 2 known + 2 unknown 0 4
Turn two 2 + 2 gu 5
Swamp 2 + 2 gub 4
Mental Note 3 + 4 bg 4
Cabal Ritual 4 + 4 bbbbb 3
Cabal Ritual 5 + 4 bbbbbbbb 2
Nefarious Lich 5 + 4 bbbb 1
Stitch Together, returning Ancestor's Chosen to the battlefield and drawing nine cards 6 + 3 bb 9
Cabal Ritual 7 + 3 bbbbb 8
Cabal Ritual 8 + 3 bbbbbbbb 7
Mossfire Egg and sacrifice it 9 + 3 bbbbbrg 7
Nantuko Elder 9 + 3 bbbr 6
Reckless Charge targeting Nantuko Elder 10 + 3 1bbbg 5
Dwell on the Past targeting two Cabal Rituals 10 + 3 1bbb 4
Darkwater Egg, sacrifice it 11 + 3 ubb 4
Cabal Ritual 12 + 3 ubbbbb 3
Immobilizing Ink targeting Nantuko Elder 12 + 3 bbbb 2
Discard a card to Immobilizing Ink 12 + 4 1bbbg 1

We can now create 1 mana for each card in hand. From here, it’s relatively easy to create arbitrarily large amounts of mana by using Stitch Together to reanimate Ancestor's Chosen, drawing a bunch of cards, casting Innocent Blood to sacrifice the Chosen again, casting Cabal Ritual to turn green mana into black mana, and casting Dwell on the Past to keep recurring the key cards. The mana can be filtered into any color by recurring the Eggs.

Once we have arbitrarily large amounts of mana of each color, Ambassador Laquatus mills all the cards in the opponent’s library, and Words of Wisdom forces him to draw.
