Some of the Most Impactful Four-Drops in Commander

Reddit

Colorless cards are unique for the Commander format since each player has access to them no matter who their Commander is. Most of these cards come in the form of powerful artifacts or giant Eldrazi monsters, usually having quite a high mana cost. Like I have said throughout this whole series of articles, four-drops can make or break a game. Four-mana spells should help push you into the late game and help secure you a spot on top as long as they stay in play. All of these cards are available for each Commander deck, however, not all of them are auto inclusions in every single brew. These cards tend to lean towards a theme even while being accessible to all players. Let's dive into the most impactful four-drops you can play in colorless when it comes to the Commander format!

Silent Arbiter

Silent Arbiter

Silent Arbiter will definitely impact the way the entire game is played from the moment it lands on the battlefield. Silent Arbiter limits combat to only one attacker and one blocker per combat phase. Silent Arbiter can be played in every single deck, however it shines best in two particular archetypes: Pillowfort and Voltron.

Pillowfort decks are built around trying to stay alive as long as possible. Wincons can include cards like Approach of the Second Sun, which requires you to wait for a couple of turns in order to draw it again. Our four-mana robot friend helps us stay alive by limiting how many creatures can get thrown in our face. Combine Silent Arbiter with a Fog Bank in a Pillowfort strategy and you will live forever...until you get hit with some removal.

Voltron decks can use this card to help get through combat. If your Commander has trample, limiting the number of creatures that can block it helps you deal massive amounts of damage. Voltron also has a weakness of usually not having many blockers in play. Silent Arbiter makes sure that your opponents can knock you out on the crackback, just like a Pillowfort deck would strive for.

Panharmonicon

Panharmonicon

Panharmonicon will double all your enter the battlefield effects from artifacts and creatures. This card is clearly best when your deck is built around having your creatures constantly enter the battlefield over and over again. Cards that double effects will forever be powerful and popular to play.

Brago, King Eternal and Aminatou are go to Commanders that want to play this four mana artifact. Mulldrifter, Ravenous Chupacabra, Aether Channeler, and Reflector Mage are all creatures that have enter the battlefield abilities. On their face they are a little slow when it comes to Commander, but with the help of Panharmonicon it makes them a lot more impactful.

Krark-Clan Ironworks

Krark-Clan Ironworks

Treasure tokens are the best tokens in Magic. There is no denying it. Well, what if every single artifact token gave us two mana, introducing Krark-Clan Ironworks. Krark-Clan Ironworks, also known as KCI, is a powerful sacrifice outlet for any Commander that cares about artifacts or artifact tokens. Ashnod's Altar is one of the most powerful sacrifice outlets for creature-based aristocrats decks so it makes sense that KCI is just as powerful when it comes to Commanders that focus more on artifact aristocrats.

Clues, Foods, Treasures, and even Blood tokens are all artifact tokens that are generated quite often across most of Magic's history of cards. Academy Manufactor makes employee of the month quite often at the Ironworks. This Assembly-Worker creates so many artifact tokens generating us so much colorless mana! Where's a Thrasios when we need one!

Krark-Clan Ironworks can be a very explosive card in Commander, making it extremely impactful anytime it is played. Playing artifact lands, such as Seat of the Synod, allows you to generate three mana by tapping it and sacrificing it to KCI! Now that is value! This card is also part of combo lines with cards such as Myr Retriever and Scrap Trawler, so be warned if you see a KCI hit your opponent's board!

Aetherflux Reservoir

Aetherflux Reservoir

Aetherflux Reservoir is one of my personal favorite artifacts! Aetherflux is a storm payoff, a lifegain engine, and a game finisher all in one! Aetherflux Reservoir gains life for each spell you've played this turn whenever you cast a spell. This simply means the more spells you cast, the more life you gain.

Aetherflux has the activated ability to pay 50 life and deal 50 damage to any target. Now, you could deal with a troublesome creature...or just simply destroy target player. Aetherflux goes great with Commanders such as K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain. Both of these Commanders are trying to cast as many spells as possible and Aetherflux helps by gaining life and being a finisher all in one card!

Roaming Throne

Roaming Throne

Roaming Throne was almost overlooked from Lost Caverns of Ixalan and now it is an all-time staple in the format. Roaming Throne doubles all triggered abilities of a creature type of our choosing when it enters play. Typal decks make up a huge portion of the large portion of Commander decks out there, and this goes in just about all of them.

The Ur-Dragon gets even more triggers thanks to the Roaming Throne. Voja, Jaws of the Conclave gets even scarier with this artifact in play. Rin and Seri make more dogs and cats! Roaming Throne is the most impactful spell to be playing in these types of decks. It also has the added bonus of Ward 2 makes it tricky for your opponents to get rid of. This card is a win-win all around!

The One Ring

The One Ring

The most impactful four-drop colorless spell in Commander is.....The One Ring. This should not be a surprise to anyone reading this article. The One Ring is a card draw engine that progressively gets better the more you tap it. You also gain protection the turn you cast it, helping you evade some of the targets drawn on your back when it hits the field. The One Ring is a colorless spell, meaning that every Commander deck that can run it, should run it.

The One Ring carries a rather hefty price tag to put it into all of your Commander decks. This card goes infinite a couple different ways. The first one being Mind Over Matter, a very simple cut and dried draw your entire library combo. Hullbreaker Horror allows you to constantly recast this card, and if you have lots of mana you can keep gaining protection and drawing more and more cards.

If we are drawing the conclusion that The One Ring to rule them all is the strongest card in the game from this evidence...it might be correct. The One Ring will be a powerful card for years to come, hence it being on the Game Changers list for the new Commander bracket system.

That wraps up my entire series on powerful four-drops for Commander! I hope you have enjoyed trying to raise the bar in your four mana slot in your decks! There were so many cards I went over I can barely remember them all. I hope your decks will become more impactful thanks to these short lists that I have made for you!

See you on the battlefield!
