More Impactful Multicolor Four-Drops for Commander

Reddit

The four-mana slot in Commander decks can be tricky. By turn four you should be casting more impactful spells that will help shape your path to victory. I have covered a lot of cards in each color already, but now it is time to finish off the multicolored cards you can include to help get you to a winning boardstate.

Minthara, Merciless Soul

Mithara, Merciless Soul is a huge haymaker when it comes to Orzhov. Minthara will progress your board by pumping your entire army of creatures. She provides an anthem power effect to each of your creatures equal to the number of Experience counters you currently have. Minthara will reward you with one of these coveted counters as long as a permanent left your side of the field during your turn. This can be simple to achieve in Orzhov since you have access to some of the best sacrifice outlets in the game. You also have access to cards that have proliferate on them, meaning you can grow your board even faster! This card is an all star of an uncommon and I am surprised it doesn't see more play.

Ral, Storm Conduit

Ral, Storm Conduit is most likely the only planeswalker I will ever include on a list like this. Planeswalkers are tricky in Commander. They get hated out of the game instantly and that can make it harder for you to get enough use out of them. This version of Ral has the upside of having a static ability that helps keep him relevant, however it is really the -2 ability that I want to call your attention to. Most Izzet decks in Commander usually revolve around casting as many instant and sorcery spells as possible. Ral rewards you for doing that by offering you to double up on a spell, thanks to his -2. You also get to activate that twice before having to increase his loyalty. This card terrorizes my playgroup as we often forget that Ral essentially has magecraft: deal 1 damage to an opponent. That gets out of hand very quickly in a color combination that is constantly trying to cast as many instants and sorceries as possible, especially ones with storm!

Rise of the Witch-king

Rise of the Witch-king is one of the best removal spells in Commander! Rise of the Witch-king is a four-mana sorcery from The Lord of the Rings. This spell will cause each player to sacrifice a creature, including you. I already know what you're thinking. This card seems over-costed and not that great, however there is one more sentence on this card to read. You get to return a permanent to play if you sacrificed a creature; ANY permanent. Golgari is full of ginormous creature threats, as well as powerful utility pieces, such as Bolas's Citadel. Golgari is continuously getting more support for Reanimator type strategies. This card is a must have if you are building into that archetype.

Prosper, Tome-Bound

Prosper, Tome-Bound is a Commander that took the world by storm when he was announced. Whenever you cast a spell out of exile you create a Treasure token. Jeska's Will, Light up the Stage, Professional Face-Breaker, and Bonehoard Dracosaur are just a couple of cards that allow you to cast some cards out of exile. Each time you do this, you get to create a Treasure token. Prosper also adds one card from the top of your library to exile, which you may cast until the end of your next turn. This turns Prosper into an incredible value engine that you can throw into any deck that relies on impulse type draw to gain advantage over your opponents. Prosper, on his own, will essentially draw you a card and make you a treasure each turn he is in play, making him a very impactful engine in Rakdos.

Inga and Esika

It should be no surprise that we are ending this journey with a Simic card. When it comes to two color pairings in Commander, especially at a casual level, Simic shines the brightest, and that is very evident by this last pick. Inga and Esika is a mana engine that draws cards, and gives all your creatures the keyword vigilance. Inga and Esika will progress your board by turning all your early game creatures into mana as well as being a four-mana dork in addition. This legend also allows you to turn this mana into some extra cards. Inga and Esika is an extremely impactful card that will start to snowball into a game winning board state in a few turns if your board starts to pump out more and more creatures. This effect is very similar to Chulane, Teller of Tales. If you have ever played against a Chulane deck, you know just how out of hand it can get!

Thanks for reading through the most impactful 4 mana multicolored cards for Commander! I hope you have enjoyed this mini series and it helps fill out that mana curve in your next project!

See you on the battlefield!
