Hi folks! Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column! This column will be aimed at showing you some cards on sale that could give you some new ideas for your lists. They will *usually* be Commander lists in Bracket 3 as well so you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods. If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices and/or add more along with some other competitive combos if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods! Keep in mind that the game changers in your deck aren't the only thing that moves you up and down a bracket. Your intent with your deck; inclusions of other interactions, engines, and combos, and overall playgroup should also be factors in your bracket!
For the Deck the Halls sale over the next couple weeks, it's broken up into six total parts over the course of the sale. Each part ends in a couple days, so be sure to get your orders in before we move to the next color! Part 1: White ends on Tuesday night at 11:59 PM before we get to Blue.
I'm gonna be writing 6 decks over the course of the next few weeks, and I hope you all enjoy the ride. Today's deck is a Mono-White Tokens deck led by Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation! We're hoping to go wide on our opponents and make more creatures than they have life, so that we can win by turning creatures sideways. Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation, like the rest of the Gods from Lost Caverns of Ixalan, all have a death trigger that turns them into a land that can transform back, if you didn't put them into the Command Zone. This is almost always worth it in Commander, because the cost to do so is still usually less mana than recasting them, especially with the Commander tax included. Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation's main draw is that it triples the amount of create tokens that you create, as a replacement effect! This can stack with other replacement effects, because you get to control the order in which they apply, so cards like Anointed Procession and Elspeth, Storm Slayer apply exactly the way you want to, multiplicatively! We'll talk about that more though, let's get into the rest!
Go Wide!
This is, first and foremost, a tokens deck. That means that we want as many of the most efficient token creators in White that we can play. Creatures like Myrel, Shield of Argive, Overlord of the Mistmoors, and Defiler of Faith all give us repeatable methods to create tokens, while each having their own utility, such as Myrel acting as a Grand Abolisher or Defiler giving us a way to get a Phyrexian-esque mana advantage. Elspeth Tirel gives us some late game value with a board-controlling ultimate, Halo Fountain can double as a win-condition if we've gone wide enough, and Thousand Moons Smithy // Barracks of the Thousand gives us White's versions of Urza, Lord High Artificer's Karn-structs! Court of Grace gives us a regular token every turn (sometimes bigger if we're the Monarch!), Felidar Retreat either gives us a token or pumps our board when we play a land, and Season of the Burrow gives us options in the form of tokens/removal/recursion, depending on our needs at the time!
We also play a few X spells, all of which give us tokens, with other effects as well. Martial Coup gives us an option to clear the board and leave us with something. United Front can give us tokens for X but also has a secret mode of "X is zero" where you just put a counter on your already massive board for ![]()
. Grand Crescendo also has a secret mode that makes your creatures indestructible at instant speed, and Bloomburrow's funniest card, Jacked Rabbit, makes tokens and can even replace itself!
We also play a certain Cat that made waves in Modern, Ocelot Pride, that can double our tokens every turn which lets me segue right into...
Life Gain!
Ocelot Pride wants you to gain life each turn, which is quite easy with the soul-filled trio of Guide of Souls, Soul's Attendant, and Soul Warden plus their older brother, Suture Priest . Those three work well with tokens, because we're dropping lots of creatures all at once. Elenda's Hierophant gives us a way to create tokens and gain life all in one creature, so she earns the spot well here. Another 60-card format all-star here, Beza, the Bounding Spring can give you mana, life, tokens, and a card, as long as you're behind in any of those fields. Ajani's Welcome is another soul-type card that will get removed less often, and Exalted Sunborn has lifelink! Exalted Sunborn is one of our many token doublers, which gives me another chance to segue into...
Going Double Wide!
Token doubling is how we go as wide as possible. If you haven't figured it out by now, going wide quite literally means having a physically wider set of creatures on the board than our opponents, simply because we have more. Our Commander, Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation is a token tripler, and we have a whole host of other ways that double our tokens! As we already mentioned, Exalted Sunborn can double it, but it can also do it in a pinch with its nifty Warp ability! Delney, Streetwise Lookout doubles triggers on small creatures, but Ocelot Pride (hey, would you look at that another doubler!) has a triggered ability and is a small creature! Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines is also a trigger doubler, while simultaneously shutting down your opponent's triggers. Elspeth, Storm Slayer and Anointed Procession are just classic token doublers, and they stack in the best way with our Commander. With all three in play, if you get one token, that gets doubled to 2, doubled again to 4, and then tripled to TWELVE (yes, it works that way in any order).
We also go wide by pumping our tokens! Prava of the Steel Legion makes our tokens a bit stronger and quite beefier. Intangible Virtue and Leyline of the Meek specifically pump our tokens, along with Cathars' Crusade making our board unnecessarily strong at an unnecessarily fast rate. Divine Visitation is another replacement effect, turning our tokens all into 4/4 Vigilant Flying Angels, which will overwhelm your opponents in the air! Unbreakable Formation is a pump spell with protection and Champions from Beyond rewards us with at a minimum of 32 extra power when it pumps our board!
Change the Game!
For our game changers in this deck, I've opted for some good options for naturally slower decks. We may go wide, but that doesn't necessarily mean we go fast. Teferi's Protection can protect us in the early-mid game at just the right time for us to stabilize and turn the tide. Smothering Tithe gives us tons of mana to cast our bigger spells right away, and Ancient Tomb is the right amount of speed that we need in a Mono-White deck, especially when the life loss isn't a huge deal to us, thanks to the Soul Sisters.
If you wanna beef this up to higher brackets, I would just add some fast mana, like Mana Vault, Chrome Mox, etc., along with a few extra combos. Helm of Obedience + Rest in Peace is a classic combo you can add in Mono-White, or even Heliod, Sun-Crowned + Walking Ballista. Basri's Lieutenant combos well with Cathars' Crusade, especially if you add a good sacrifice outlet like Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar.
Here's the list, stay tuned in a couple days for Blue!
