This Week in Magic - Beta #1

Reddit

Magic the Gathering Beta stampThere are more and more Magic the Gathering sites on the internet, from ManaNation to StarCityGames to the numerous other strategy based sites, blogs and forums. This is the Beta launch of my gatherings of a handful of what he considers to be the best/most entertaining/most informative/most awesome articles, podcasts and discussions of the week from around the web. This is a BETA test. The format of these Friday posts may change wildly, but ideally it will be going up around noon on Fridays here at ManaNation.com

Note: I do not include any of the premium articles from SCG. This is not for any reason other than I want to start out with non-premium, articles everyone can read. I may add them in the future, but not at this time. Also SCG Premium articles are almost always worth the read so they would have a high frequency of appearance here.

Sept. 26 - Oct. 2

Monday

  • Zendikar Pre-Release Wrap-Up - GatheringMagic.com is a rising star in Magic the Gathering blog sites. I think Reinhart's writeup of his pre-release experience was quite entertaining.

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

  • Magic Economics - Actual and Expected Values - ManaNation.com's inaugural article for Kelly Reid of Quiet Speculation.com. A great read about the values of unopened packs of Magic the Gathering cards.
  • House of Commons: Zendikar Edition! - The Mothership's (wizards.com) writer Noel deCordova wrote a fun article with a number of budget Zendikar decks. Definitely a good read and fodder for deck building with the new set.
  • Making it Look Easy - Again on the Mothership, Mike Flores does a great write up about Zendikar deck building. And of course pushing the cult of the Lotus Cobra.

Friday

  • Good Game: Going Aggro - MTGSalvation's writer Andrew Hanson wrote about a Vampire/Sligh Aggro set. It's an excellent progression and explanation of the deck building process.

Forum Discussions

  • MTGSalvation: Vampire Aggro - Vampire Aggro seems to be quite a popular archetype for the new standard and this thread has had a lot of good (and not so good) input on the deck.
  • Reddit: magicTCG - What have I missed? - A discussion answering a Redditor's question about what he has missed since he left Magic after the Torment set. An excellent series of points about what has changed in the past decade of Magic.

Special Mentions

And I feel I need to give him his own section rather than spread them day to day. LSV has been going through Zendikar and doing a set review color by color on ChannelFireball.com, some awesome stuff in there.

There are a number more articles and sites that I have yet to give their proper due, but as a first attempt at this sort of wrap-up from the world of Magic, I think I can finish up here and begin getting my new deck ready for Friday Night Magic.
